Re: New Firefly Sofware (works also for Streamzap)

I am having an issue when the program tells me to plug in the firefly receiver at install. I plug it in, and it doesn't get recognized by the installer. Windows recognizes it because I get the standard windows beep when it is plugged in. The firefly (with BM Basic) have already been removed, and the stripped down drivers are installed. Is there any reason the setup program would not detect the device being plugged in?

I'm unable to even use the key mapping program because I can't get the driver package thing to work.

This doesn't seems to be working. You'll have to wait for the next version of the software, I'll add two new actions "KeyDown" and "KeyUp" and those will address all issues of the "Keystrokes" actions (but will require more work on your part, for instance here you'll have to add six actions : KeyDown Shift / KeyDown Ctrl / KeyDown M / KeyUp M / KeyUp Ctrl / KeyUp Shift).

Regards,
Stéphane.

Hello, my software doesn't check that your Firefly is plugged or not... So you are talking about the Beyond Media Basic software.

I don't know if it will work or not but, remove anything you have installed for your Firefly remote. Then download the Firefly driver only package from my web site and install my software. Then try to press the "Mute" button on the Firefly and see if it works.

Regards,
Stéphane.

Re: New Firefly Sofware (works also for Streamzap)

Hi All,

I've just uploaded an updated version of the software with the "KeyDown" and "KeyUp" actions that should solve all the problem with the "Keystroke" action (for instace for Ctrl + Alt + M keyboard shortcuts).

Regards,
Stéphane.

It was the Streamzap software that was not functioning. I tried installing it without reading your instructions, and got humbled. I have a Firefly so you can see where the problem was. Works good now.

Re: New Firefly Sofware (works also for Streamzap)

Can someone post a BTV profile that is similar to the FF software (i.e. buttons that bring up the guide, etc)?

I was sure I posted a reply to your message, but it has disappeared (and it's not the first time... or I'm getting old and tired ).

Anyway, the "Alt" key is called by its virtual key code name, so it is "Menu", you can choose either "Menu" or "LeftMenu", "RightMenu".

Regards,
Stéphane.

In the online database there is one profile that claims to be identical to the one in Beyond Media Basic, it is called "Beyond TV SE" (and there are also two other profiles).

Stéphane.

Re: New Firefly Sofware (works also for Streamzap)

Been awhile since I checked out this forum, and I see your cool app. Good to see that the firefly is still loved and used!

I have a quick question, I curently use girder, to control the firefly, instead of the firefly software, because I need to be able to send X10 commands (shut down lights, bring lights on) and USB-UIRT commands (send volume up IR signals to my receiver, etc.)

Can your application control send X10 and USB-UIRT commands?

Thanks,

No it doesn't send X10 commands and USB-UIRT IR commands. It may be possible to use some command line tools to do that but I don't think it will be very hepful.

However, I'm waiting for a USB-UIRT device, and I'm planning to create a software for it that will be "device centric". So you'll be able to add devices in the software and describe how they works (regarding volume, input, device modes, power status etc...). Then you'll be able to control all of them in a simple way (as the software will remember all devices status : wether it's on or off / what is the volume level / what is the current input or device mode etc...).

Though I was not planning to handle X10 devices, but I guess I could have a look at this. What is the X10 device you are using with your PC?

Regards,
Stéphane.

Re: New Firefly Sofware (works also for Streamzap)

You can use HIP to capture IR codes and define them, then use HipWsend to send those commands. I just set this up on my system so I could use my RF Firefly to change the volume on my Receiver, using the MCE IR Blasters. (I'm just using the stock Firefly software, not this new software, but the premise is the same, the execution is just slightly different.)

I was thinking of writing up a HOWTO, if there is any interest.
