You mean that you had to use a predifined ir codes set from Windows Media Center because you weren't able to learn anything withing Windows Media Center.

From your logs the problem still looks the same, your device doesn't recognize the "stop learning" command. So maybe this is your original remote that your device doesn't like, or your device doesn't have a learning port.

When learning with my software, the device should blink when it receive a signal from your original remote.

Also be careful, on Vista, you have to choose "Vista MCE IR Blaster" and on XP "MCE IR Blaster" (also a MCE remote designed for Vista may not work very well on XP)

You can also try to learn another remote (including the MCE remote itself, for instance the "Infos" button)

Regards,
Stéphane.

Not necessarily. I'm pretty sure HIP is using the MCE receiver in a different way (the receiver can have a learning port as well as a regular receiver with long range that can also be used as a learning port, but this is not what I do)

So I'm sorry if you are not able to learn even the MCE remote own ir codes then it will not work.

Stéphane.

Re: New Firefly Sofware (works also for Streamzap)

Hello,

I am (very happily) using the donator version with a Streamzap, and I was glad to see that 4.7 supports the Hauppauge 45 button remote, since I use that on my second BTV machine.

However, I also use the Firefly RF on that PC (for watching on a different floor). Is it possible (in 4.8?) to control two remotes on the same PC?

Thanks,

Lary

No, LM RKM will always support one and only one remote at a time. I will make another software that will support multiple devices at a time.

By the way, the Hauppauge remote is broken in 4.7 (the remote works a couple of minutes and stops), this will be fixed in 4.8 (today/tomorrow).

Regards,
Stéphane.

Re: New Firefly Sofware (works also for Streamzap)

Hi Stéphane,
I've been happily using LM to control my Mediaportal/BTV setup with a Harmony/MCE remote. I currently leave MP as my running app and when I switch to the BTV activity I simply launch BTV. To switch back to MP, LM just sends an alt-F4 shutdown of BTV. I have a BTV and MP remote profile.

It seems I could simplify this a bit more by keeping both applications running and simply switching between the two. From looking over the documentation, it appears that I can use the change profile command and check off the "auto to foreground" box in the profile and this would switch the applications? Is this the best approach?

Also, I've noticed that there is a LM Blaster process running. Since I don't use an IR blaster, is it safe to shut it down and can it be done in the LM configuration?

Thanks

I think I partially answered my question. Change Profile does not seem to do what I thought it would do. The first profile switch appears only to work on the second click of the remote (I assume the first click only gets the focus of the window). After that initial two click application switch, the applications switch fine with a single click. However, as soon as I try to click on any button it switches back to the previous application. I assume the "active" app is the one I just switched from even though it is in the background?

ChangeProfile is used to force LM RKM to use a profile whatever application is in focus (until you use ChangeProfile again to switch back to the default profile).

When a profile is forced and if you use the "Automatically bring application window to foreground", LM RKM will try to put the forced profile's target application into focus whenever you click a button on the remote.

So the "ChangeProfile" + "Automatically..." should mostly be used when you know the application you use with the remote can loose focus (for instance because you have two monitors one for browsing the net and the other for watching TV, you use keyboard + mouse for PC activities and the remote for TV...)

You can also use it in your scenario, but I don't think you really can loose focus here.

What I would do is:

* dedicate a button (Green Button) for launching MP in the default profile
* dedicate a button (TV button) for launching BTV GUI in the default profile
* In the BTV profile, use the Green Button to switch to MP (with AppActivate)
* In the MP profile use the TV button to switch to BTV (with AppActivate)

Now this totally depends on how you manage your activities with the Harmony. Usually the Harmony paradigm is to switch On / Off a device when needed.

I personally treat applications like devices, so I have one "On" command and one "Off" command for each of them. When there is no activities running the PC is at the desktop.

Also, you can disable the LM RKM Blaster Service from the Windows Services Console if you don't use the blaster (the blaster service is also used to set up the MCE remote and for the USB-UIRT used a a remote receiver, it may also play other roles in the future).

Regards,
Stéphane.

Re: New Firefly Sofware (works also for Streamzap)

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll stay with my current scheme since it does work well. I like to leave the MP Video window as my default window since it eliminates the load time for the DVD coverart. Just couldn't resist the temptation to constantly tweak my remote setup.

Re: New Firefly Sofware (works also for Streamzap)

I just purchased a Harmony 880 and I already have it working as a FF mini. My question is this, can I use the mini's IR receiver but tell the 880 it is an MCE remote and then configure LM RKM as an MCE? Will the IR receiver I got with the Mini pass the codes along to the RKM software? The reason I want to do this is it looks like the MCE configuration has a few more buttons (color ones for example), and I can see this as being useful. I always felt like the mini could have benefited from a few more keys.

I will be using BTV, Meedio and/or MediaPortal as well as VLC. This is on an XP box.

Thanks.

No, the FF Mini receiver will only react to FF Mini remote.

Indeed, though you can still use LM RKM menu or multipress features to make your buttons do more than one thing at a time.

Stéphane.

Re: New Firefly Sofware (works also for Streamzap)

Thanks for the quick reply. I was afraid it wouldn't work and I didn't want to mess with my 880 setup if it wouldn't. I like the ideas you suggested and will probably try them. My buddy just told me he has a Streamzap receiver he isn't using so I might give that a try also.
