Re: Slow Response in BeyondTV

I got tired of trying to figure out this problem and decided to reload the machine from scratch. Everything is up and running again and my Firefly is responding quickly again!
Here's what I did:
  1. reformated the C: drive
  2. reloaded XP Pro
  3. loaded the same drivers for my video(nvidia), network(Intel), tuners(Hauppauge), audio(I'm not at the machine, so I can't remember the brand)
  4. applied the same Windows Updates
  5. reloaded the same Firefly version
  6. reloaded the same BTV version
  7. continued to use the same d: drive for storing my recordings(and I left the existing recordings on there)
  8. did not move the Firefly receiver.
So according to my logic that rules out:
  1. Driver conflicts
  2. Windows Update conflicts
  3. Firefly interference
  4. Hardware problems
  5. Problems with the number of saved recordings
The only thing I have left is to try installing BTV Link to see if the problem occurs again...

I'm unwilling to try that.

Thanks for everyone's input.

WAIT! were you trying to use btv and btvlink at the the same time on the same machine? that should not be possible.

Driver conflicts
Windows Update conflicts
these are not eliminated just yet just fixed if that was the problem.
depends on the order of installation or if one of the drivers/updates were botched on install.

what might be stepped on during one installation does not necessarily mean it will happen again on the next install.

Re: Slow Response in BeyondTV

I never installed Link on my main machine. I did it on my laptop and used it to access my main machine. That is what I was referring to since the beginning of this thread.

I understand about the install order but if you are assuming that my system was always slow before, it wasn't. There was some unknown event recently that caused the slowness in all apps except the BMB app.

I'm done trying to figure out the problem. I just hope it doesn't happen again, cuz it sure was a pain the first time.

Thanks!

no i am not assuming anything. i have personally seen well behaved systems go bonkers out of the blue either because of a program/driver/update/etc. so i was just saying not to assume the updates and the drivers didn't cause the situation.

anyway congrats for getting it back up just sorry it came to a wipe and reinstall.
i have one myself that needs the same treatment that i am dreading.

Re: Slow Response in BeyondTV

I have had similar issues since install. I have no processes that are hogging the CPU (I even tried it with shutting down all non-essential processes), and the 2 Firefly processes are at a HIGH priority. (I have tried realtime, but it makes the system unusable).

Now, BMB response to Firefly in instant, but in SageTV, PowerDVD, Windows Media Player, and WinAmp, there is a consistant 3 second delay between button press and action... All of these processes respond instantly to keyboard input...

At this point, I am seriously considering ditching the Firefly remote...

Re: Slow Response in BeyondTV

there will be a lag between firefly and any other app than bmb. this is because bmb is the firefly software(for lack of a better way to describe it.) now despite this the gap should not be anywhere near 3 seconds something has to interfering with the firefly operation or it is trying to send it out but the destination app is busy. see if you can find evidence of either.

i cannot remember if bmb installs .net but if it does try reinstalling that or at least check the operation of it(probably best to nuke it and re-install if you have 1.x and 2.x re-install 1.x first then 2.x.

Re: Slow Response in BeyondTV

Mine was delayed by my HDD I think. I defragged all my drives and it seemed to help the issue.

I was experiencing no gap whatsoever in ANY software and then one day, there it was.

There's two more things to try though that was suggested here. Reinstall .net and defrag the storage drive.

Re: Slow Response in BeyondTV

I have narrowed this issue down to how the X10nets.exe is using system resources. I reinstalled my computer and the X10nets.exe had a priority of realtime underneath system resources priority. I was really annoyed with the performance of the Firefly remote this way. I reinstalled the computer and the firefly remote. It now has a priority of High and the remote is working like it should. I have searched for a way to change the X10nets.exe priority without reinstalling but have found nothing.

Yeah, would be nice to be able to do that without having to reinstall my computer.

Re: Slow Response in BeyondTV

I have a fresh Media Center XP build. I've seen firefly act buggy slow as well after awhile. The biggest problem is MCE will freeze and not respond at all. Using the up/down/left/right wont move the cursor selection. When I use my mouse to start a video, I can still use firefly pause/play though. (an odd mix) One time it got so bad, I ended up rolling back my machine to it's baseline image via Acronis True Image so I can have a clean start again. So far so good after a week, but I've noticed slow firefly issues when I used it on my last MCE computer as well.

I left firefly off for the first few weeks with no issues. As soon as I put firefly software on my MCE, the slow problems appeared again after several days

Hopefully Windows Vista and Vista Firefly drivers will be improved.
(when ever snapstream releases one, hopefully before 2007?)

Re: Slow Response in BeyondTV

i'm having the same problem with firefly as of 3 days ago, with no changes made to my system. this seems like it needs to be addressed in one way or another, because a complete system re-install is not a practical solution. anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Red face Re: Slow Response in BeyondTV

I have the same problem here. I have isolated the basic (interferences, task manager for other apps, batteries) nothing seems to make it work like is did. I too have beyond tv link on a laptop computer but I cannot understant how it could be related since the lag is on the main computer (which is hook-up on the tv), when using the firefly. All my shows are compressed in divx, it might be related to the fact it is compressed videos (using more system ressources to play)... I dont know...

I think it began after I installed the latest btv version (with DVD burning)...

Anyone ?

ps. : Ill try the defrag tonight. I also have a lot of recorded show (264 actually), I might also try removing some folders to see how it react.
