media player 9

I really dont like the fact that it automatically installs media player 9. I made a point of keeping that trash off of this system and now your software just makes assumptions for me that I want this crap on my computer.

some options in the install would be freakin' nice.

Re: media player 9

Hmm... OK... Let's see...

If you simply do a System Restore -- to the day before you installed BeyondMedia Basic -- you will be without Media Player 9.

Your other option at that point would be to download FireFly Drivers Only -- which will include needing Girder to use the remote: find both here:

Re: media player 9

umm... lets see.

1. dont use XP's system restore. a) it uses alot of disk space b) it is a resource hog c) it is the number 1 place that virus' reside, and restoring to a point before which you removed any malicious files would re-infect a system. I can't believe a "tech" would actually instruct someone to use XP's system restore.

2. firefly driver only is good, IF you want to use girder.

3. I have removed media player since installing the software. I didn't say I couldn't, I said that there should be an option in the install. To automatically install MP9 is ridiculous. So is telling people they can use drivers only, but you have to use another product as well.

kind of bush league really.

Re: media player 9

OK #1 -- System Restore is the recommended removal instruction per Microsoft and other sources.

If you configure it correctly -- it will not use a lot of disk space. Just because you don't like it does not mean it has not been very useful for a lot of other users.

As far as the virus issue is concerned -- a good antivirus application would have not allowed the file to stay infected and then backed up in the restore point.

We provide the drivers only package for people who do not want to use the Basic interface -- simple as that. Without girder -- the remote would do very little.

We have quite a few users who asked for that feature -- and are very happily using it.

At this time -- we just have it install MP9 as either it is already installed on the machine -- or that we have verifiied that it works as needed for our application. Sorry you didn't like how it worked.

"OK #1 -- System Restore is the recommended removal instruction per Microsoft and other sources."

So you are a tech, and you follow what Microsoft tells you? You my friend are the only "tech" that I have ever heard of that would listen to what MS tells you. MS suggests you use all of their products, do you? By your logic, I guess I should have bought the MS remote instead of the snapstream Firefly remote

good antivirus... even the best antivirus software does not stop all virii. Any tech would know that.

Either way, what I said is having the OPTION to not install MP9 would be much better. For you to argue with a customer and not admit that having the option would be better just proves that this company does not care about the customers, instead you care about thinking you are right. A simple, "yes we will think about putting that option in" would have gained you much more respect, but instead you made you and your company look petty and childish... good job.

I am very happy with the remote, I think it is a great product. I will say that I do have to hit the buttons a couple of times before they work quite often though (I have tried new batteries, and moved the receiver around and still have a problem from as little as 15 feet away)

Re: media player 9

Wow, you sure get wound up easily. I only use WMP and am quite happy that the 2 products integrate so well.

bnflaherty is extremely helpful on these forums and bashing him makes you look foolish, not him.

My remote works flawlessly from well over 25 feet (I have tested it) and responds quickly. You may have issues with your house that prevents a long signal.

I agree, bashing a very helpful SnapStream tech support fellow is childish and uncool. Also, I had range problems initially. I solved it by extending the distrance between the computer and the FF receiver using a 10ft. USB cable. It works from quite a long distance now.

You may notice that I said "may be your house". Some houses are built with metal studs, not wood, and believe it or not, metal will interfere with RF signals. Could be duct work, who knows. It is a valid point as I was just trying to help.

Mocking people just trying to help is just plain rude. I can tell from your 5 posts, all of which go against the intention of this forum to help each other, that you are someone who probably knows everything. This shows by your response to people trying to help you. I am glad that your new remote works, and that your house wasn't the problem. I hope that Beyond Media works out for you as it has for many of us, as it is a great product.

Since you know everything, and the rest of us all offer such childish advice, I look forward to your future posts.

Re: media player 9

riderfan, I didnt look at your post very closely, and assumed it was from bnflaherty. I shrugged it off as another "couldn't be a problem with our product, it must be your house" type of reply.

You are right, it very well could be duct work or other metal or radio interference. Thanks for the reply.

My posts were not meant to flame, but for an emplyee to simply disregard any constructive criticizm shows that a company will never move forward.
