Red face Performance Issue w/Beyond TV/Firefly

When I have Beyond TV viewing Live TV and press any button (i.e. Mute) on the Firefly, it can take up to 5 seconds for it to respond, and usually when it takes the extended time, it mutes and un-mutes with one push. Then if I push buttons again it responds relatively quick. This also happens with Beyond Media. It there any setting that I have wrong that could be causing this. I'm running on a Athlon XP 2400 w/512 mb ram.

Thanks

Re: Performance Issue w/Beyond TV/Firefly

Is this a new behavior, or has it always done this?

Re: Performance Issue w/Beyond TV/Firefly

I've run into this as well. I've noticed that it only does it at times of high CPU usage. I tend to run into it when a show finishes recording and it creates teh smart chapters. If that is the case, you could set it up to create smart chapters durring off peak hous.... I just deal with it myself, but if someone else has a solution, I'm all ears.

I've expierence the same when I'm encoding Xvid or something in the background. Do you have a PVR 250/350 or an ATI AIW for encoding?

Re: Performance Issue w/Beyond TV/Firefly

It has always been this way with the FireFly. I had the Hauppauge IR remote and if I remember correctly, it didn't happen then.

Also,
It happens when nothing else is going on, on the machine. I also noticed that it happens with Beyond Media the same way.

Capture card is a PVR250.

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Performance Issue w/Beyond TV/Firefly

Ok, well that answer my main question as to whether your CPU was being taxed by the MPG Capture process.

You could try and change the FireFly's process priority high. Maybe that would make it a little more responsive.

Re: Performance Issue w/Beyond TV/Firefly

how do you change the process priority of a program?
Is is permanent so that after a reboot it autmatically starts at a higher priority?

Start Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del) and go to the Processes tab. Find the Firefly process and right click on it. You can then set the priority in there.

No it's not a permanent solution.

Re: Performance Issue w/Beyond TV/Firefly

I'm interested to hear if this (tho temporary) fix makes your problem go away.
