Hey folks, If you are a Girder user, Firefly works really well with it.
Download from here: Girder 3.31b Trial (FireFly Edition): http://www.girder.nl/downloadn.php?Link=581 Firefly Plug-in for Girder http://www.girder.nl/downloadn.php?Link=558 |

Much thanks rakesh!
I will give the software a go, just to be familiar with it, but use girder for so much already its nice to have one less program running if I can integrate all through girder.

Re: Girder stuff for Firefly
How do you get girder to work with Firefly without Beyond Media Basic???? Can someone please explain how I go about uninstalling Beyond Media Basic but keep the Firefly drivers installed? Or do I uninstall Firefly completely, and then have to install the drivers directly from the CD-ROM? How do you do this. Right now, I have everything installed, and can't get girder to respond to keys on the FF remote since BM captures them and executes their default actions.
Thanks, Rob |

Re: Girder stuff for Firefly
Either uninstall Firefly and use Girder through the plugin. (Firefly software not needed)
Or: (Recommended option) Keep Firefly software. Regedit, go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run \ key - delete the one for firefly. (Thanks to merrypig for that one) Then use Girder with FF plugin Eric

Re: Girder stuff for Firefly
Thanks, I'll look into this tonight when I'm home. I'm a little confused though, if I delete the key from the registry will it still execute FF, but not BM? I tried last night to not start FF at startup. Then I figured out how I could program Girder to use the remote using the plugin, but I would have to create a command for EVERY key on the remote for both BTV and myHTPC (which is what I've switched to). The nice thing about the FF software is that it already controls BTV completely, I just don't want it to control BM. Is this what you did? If so, has someone posted a GML file for girder that already has all the FF keys mapped?
Thanks, Rob Edit: I just looked at the registry and am convinced this will just not run Firefly.exe. I can't believe that BM is built into Firefly. A little dissappointed in this. Like I asked earlier, does someone have a GML file that works with the FF remote? It'll take me a long time to get everything working right. Thanks, Rob Last edited by kd5dea; 06-07-2004 at 07:51 PM. Re: Girder stuff for Firefly
Perhaps someone at SS should update this sticky. The links and program versions have all changed significantly.

Re: Girder stuff for Firefly
my media pc is taking on more responsibilies so I'm trying to reduce the amount of overhead on it to keep things running smooth. so i decided to try the girder + firefly route to remove the necessity for beyond media basic. I got this working myself, and i'm also looking for anybody who has a premade GML for firefly.

Re: Girder stuff for Firefly
Attached mine ; please bear in mind it is a work in progress so may need some finalisation/tweaking to suit - but it has a lot of the basic framework in place.
Key points; 1/ supports firefly on channel #1; to change the id you will need to edit the event ids in the firefly command group (only) 2/ Supports many htpc apps; meedio, BM, BTV, zoomplayer, powerdvd being the key ones. BM/meedio may not be complete as I've not settled on my final choice yet and haven't fully configured the groups 3/ Remote event id's are abstracted from the program command/key presses. Extra input devices can be added or others removed without redoing all the programs 4/ You will need TaskSwitch and TaskCreate plugins enabled 5/ You will need firefly's girder plugin and girder 3.3.1c (I think ) I don't mind answering questions , but I mainly throw this out to help folks find their way around how to manage multiple apps with girder and expect it will be edited.

Re: Girder stuff for Firefly
merrypig, just to make sure I get this right... You only load the firefly USB drivers + the plugin right? You can uninstalled the BM Basic bundled package as I understand it. Is that right? Thanks

Re: Girder stuff for Firefly
That is correct.
Download the "Basic firefly drivers " http://www.snapstream.net/download/Firefly_Drivers.aspx and install. Download the girder plugin http://www.promixis.com/download.php?ID=336 and copy that to the girder plugin directory run up girder (v3.3.1b available here http://snapstream.fileburst.com/store/girder331c.exe ) Go to the settings -> plugins and enable the snapstream firefly plugin etc. No BM or BMB required.

Re: Girder stuff for Firefly
so I took a quick lookover your gml...i might have some questions when I have a second look cause wow lol. I'm still confused over the enabling/disabling of items and gotta figure out how to change button controls).
My thoughts: have firefly capable of doing everything it could do before in beyond media/tv. press a button to toggle the remote's channel to a new button set (set B) to now do other fuctions - for example, my tv's regular remote's controls. press the toggle button again change to another channel/button set (set C) to now do the fuction of my stereo controls. at the same time, have girder announce which set it's on when I toggle (tv control) - as well as leave a small semi-transparent OSD on the screen in the corner so I know what it's currently on should I forget. I have all these ideas, but trying to make them happen is taking a bit of research hehe....just gonna have to keep chipping away at the program and searching online. |

Re: Girder stuff for Firefly
gizak, It's pretty easy to do what you want to do.
Create a group for each set you want to configure. Disable them by default. In each group, map commands for each button on the remote and the key press you want to send . Learn the snapstream firefly event for each command. Create one more group that is enabled by default. In this group add commands for your 'hotkeys' to select A, B, C, D. For the action on these events you should enable /disable the appropriate 'groups' you created above using the "girder" action tab. Note; if you have multiple sets you will want to disable all other groups before enabling the new one. This is easiest to do if you issue a 'multigroup command' ( I think that's what it's called). Here girder executes one command after another when the top event is fired. So you could create one multi command that is called "Disable all sets" ; which executes severl girder 'disable group' commands; one for each set you have. Then when adding commands to your top hotkey group; add multi commands instead. Then as the first action 'execute the disable all sets' command, then as the second action, enable the specific group you want. Hmm. that sounded so simple when I was thinking about it - but I didn't explain too well.. If I get a mo I'll setup a configuration and show ya some pics.
