Again, I'll mention the need for IR capability. I was excited after looking at this remote until I found out it was being designed with IR. RF is *great*; then I don't need 35ft. of extension cable to the IR receiver.

But I still have to have the 2nd remote laying around to turn my TV on and off and adjust its volume control...doesn't everyone else have the same problem? (I'm currently using silver Hauppauge remote). If it had IR, then I could teach it those commands and have only one single remote...my lifelong dream.

Not sure if this helps, but I've got a similar remote and had the same doubleclick problem. The thread below advises including that you configure BTV in the software. I did that, then turned it off in the software and the doubleclick stopped and everything works just fine - nice to have the remote control the TV and VCR, too.

Gunn....you will not have htis problem by investing in a true quality Universal remote....I always felt this was going to cost me too much time and money (i.e. looking at Pronto's etc. in past) and never saw the consideration for push button interface in this market until recent developments. Check out www.harmonyremote.com and you will see the SST-659. It is excellent. Also look at www. remotecentral.com. You will see reviews. You can set this puppy up for "activities" One will be PVR....and it will operate both the TV volume and Hauppauge card (i.e. SS or Sage, whatever uses same commands as Hauppauge remote) at the same time. VERY CLEVER. You can even go on their site and do a trail configuration. The way Harmony works is to do the config on their site (hence, you benifit from the collaborative work that all others have done before you......and th Hauppauge codes are already on this site!!!) and then download the final set-up...based on your entire AVR media set-up via USB onto your remote. It then performs the macros based on what you want to do on an activity basis........

I was able to order one today for $140 inclusive of shipping.......and this will definitely meet the WAF test......

Did anyone else hear that X10 is out of business now? Is this fact or fiction? I wonder what this means for the Remote Wonder I/II?

Can this be configured to work with any application? Such as I do not run SnapStream but run another product that I would love to use this one.

Also can each mode be configured to change the volume on my audio system? Such as I would want the TV mode to change the channels on my TV and work the volume on my TV.

Thanks!

In class I must be brief...TV/Audio are IR so you can not use it or any RF-only remote to do this...

And yes it has been said that profiles will be provided for several applications and can be expanded to any application you wish.

X10 is a type of technology sold by many companies, so it can't be "out of business". If you mean X10.com....they aren't either, just check the website.

Thumbs up onebox remote has IR and RF

All this talk about IR and RF... it's pretty simple, you want both.

RF is great for use with your PC.
IR is great for turning off your TV and Stereo, or adjusting volume, etc.

If any of you are using Snapstream in the living room, then I'm sure you will want to be able to control your other entertainment devices as well, almost all TVs and Stereos only work with IR.

I am using the onebox remote, in the living room to control my pc, my tv, my stereo, and when I'm not using my pc, it controls my digital cable box too.

Here's a link if you want more info.
http://oneboxmc.com/remote.htm

Just my 2 cents.

With the new GUI and full screen, full f(x) and full mobility within BTV via the IR command set of a Hauppauge......I no longer have any need for RF. All I need is one solid Universal remote like Harmony SST-659 or Home Theather Master MX-700 and a wireless mini-keyboard / gyro mouse from gyration. THe best of both worlds now available. WHen the PC is working as a STB or PVR/DVR or any other application/f(x) available from BTV, it is one of many other components of my entertainment system and controlled by that IR universal remote. When the PC is being used as a computer, the mini-keyboard and gyro mouse is used. The display is steady throughout.....a 43" DLP TV (could be any display for that matter)

Read the FAQ.

From a developers stand point.

I would love to see the integration of firefly with other BTV products, maybe a total package with Firefly, Beyond Media, BTV and the PVR-250. Would make it easier on my end, and probably cheaper to roll out a system. Would also give developers like myself more versatility instead of always looking to AIW packages to get a free Remote Wonder thrown into the mix.

Although its nice to have integrated mouse funcitonality like the ATI remote wonder, with a good gyro built into a keyboard its not neccessary.

The one thing that personally gets me with most RF remotes is their range and low tolerance for interference. I prefer to mount all the RF recievers internally in the case, but with most nice high end cases, they have solid metal fronts which really hinder the RF reciever. The ATI is totally frustrating to use when mounted in front, and often recquires an USB extension to get it further from the PC to work very well. I would gladly pay extra for a remote, keyboard with reciever that have great range and sensitivity. This is one of the great pluses about IR and the USB-UIRT. I can mount them behind a window and they work great, with very good responsiveness. Its just so frustrating to type with an RF keyboard and have it miss characters.

The girder plugin is GREAT. As with girder I can set up so much, and have great versatility. With a few walk throughs and tips from a manual most people can get the basics of girder, which is a plus.

Why cant someone come out with a good ir/rf combo remote, so I can just control my pc/snapstream (rf), turn the volume down on the stereo (ir), and turn off the tv (ir)?

There are a good number of IR/rf combo remotes out there. They just tend to get pricey at times, but I am sure there are some budget ones.

www.remotecentral.com is a great place to find remotes. they even have a little prog on there that you can select what features you want the remote to have and display a list of matching remotes.

BTV send Firefly's info there yet?

I personally would LOVE RF so much more if the recievers/transmitters were more powerful. Course that means more juice etc. I just hate clutter and like to mount everything internal on HTPC cases, customers tend to like it too.

Nah RF is last years technology we need an 802.11b compatible remote, much longer ranges and could work with multiple computers easily Ofcourse it would probably cost a few hundred dollars...
