Red Green Blue Yellow Buttons and FF Mini

For my HTPC, I have two input devices: the FF mini and an Airboard keyboard/mouse. I have a learning remote have mapped the IR commands from these two devices into it's command set.

I am looking for a way to emulate the red, green, blue, yellow (sometimes called teletext buttons) that are found on VME remotes in the learning remote.

I have been unable to find a Vista Media Center keyboard shortcut equivalent for these functions, so I can't use keyboard emulation to get the code.

I realize it's a long shot, but wondered if maybe there was a superset of IR codes available for the FF mini beyond the physical buttons that might include these functions.

Re: Red Green Blue Yellow Buttons and FF Mini

Have you looked into EventGhost? I'm running it on my link machines in place of the FireFly Mini software. It gives you total control over the actions taken by any button. I use it to control Windows Media Player for DVDs and Meedio as my front end as well as BTV.

You will have to dedicate some buttons, losing thier original function. However, this can be done on a per-application basis.

Re: Red Green Blue Yellow Buttons and FF Mini

The problem is that I can't find keyboard shortcuts for these functions in Total Media 3 which I use for Blu Ray playback. FF doesn't have assigned remote keys for this either, so I don't know what to emulate. The Media Center remotes and the Hauppauge remote have these buttons, but I would have to add another IR receiver to the pc or replace the FF remote receiver with one of these to get these functions.

Right now the FF mini IR commands used with my learning remote handle just about everything. For functions that it doesn't support, I use IR keyboard inputs and macros derived from my airboard IR keyboard.

Well, The MCE Remote don't do anything special for the Red / Green / Yellow etc... buttons (those are not media buttons / special buttons, each application is responsible for responding or not to these MCE buttons).

However, Media Center will respond to these keyboard shortcuts:

* Yellow = Ctrl + Shift + T
* Green = Ctrl + M
* Blue = Ctrl + I
* Red = Ctrl + E

I don't know if these keyboard shortcuts will be recognized with Total Media. You should review the Total Media resources (doc, forums etc...) to see if keyboard shortcuts exists.

Moreove: the FF Mini will only recognize its own IR codes. You cannot make the FF Mini respond to the IR codes of an Hauppauge or MCE Remote.

So basically : your only solution is to reuse existing button on the FF Mini and remap them to do what you want (you can use any third party software for this like mine (see signature) or EventGhost, Girder...) OR to use another macro IR codes set from your IR keyboard (I used to use an Airboard keyboard but never managed to learn its IR codes for keyboard shortcuts with my Harmony Remote)

Regards,
Stéphane.

Re: Red Green Blue Yellow Buttons and FF Mini

Thanks Stephane

I use an Airboard as well and with lots of help from Remote Central, I have had good results building macros of keyboard inputs for my Pronto Remote. I was unable to find keyboard equivalents documented anywhere else.
