PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

Changed global.xml and assigned it to powerdvd8.exe. program launches fine. Used the app identifier to update powerdvd.xml. All that I get when I try to push play or anyother button is the "grunt" Anybody having luck with PowerDVD8? Please post your .xml.
Thanks

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

Oddly, I started out with good luck. I upgraded to PowerDVD 8 Ultra and then used the Firefly tools to brand a copy of what worked so well with PowerDVD 7 Deluxe. It seemed to work and I was pleased with myself until the next day. It stopped working. I double checked the values reported by app identifier and they were just fine. It just doesn't work.

Bye.

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

I have some new information about PowerDVD 8 Ultra. If I unchecked "Play Full-screen" and restart PowerDVD, I have control with the Firefly. When I allow PowerDVD to go full-screen, I loose some control - some buttons still work, most don't.

It's pretty hard to tell where the fault is. Is it PowerDVD 8 itself somehow, or is it the Firefly interface to the keyboard stream? I did notice that the Firefly app tool showed slightly different information when PowerDVD was full screen - the path name of the PowerDVD executable was missing. The ATL number and the Window text was the same. Could that be it?

Bye.

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

Try these xml files. I found that I could not get PowerDVD to respond at all to any buttons on the remote. I edited the xml file and I found I had to change the KeyAction command to get the correct response.

Here's an example:
From
<Actions Button="Play" Description="Play">
<KeyAction Keys="{enter}" />
To
<Actions Button="Play" Description="Play">
<KeyAction ActivationState="DownRepeat" Keys="{enter}" />

I also found that the FileName attribute had to be correct for things to work right. I got things working with DVD's using FileName="C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD8\PowerDVD8.exe" as reported from AppIdentifer while playing DVD's but Blu-Ray's did not work the same. I ran the AppIdentifier again while playing a Blu-Ray disk and found that PowerDVD did not return a FileName attribute while playing Blu-Ray's. I made a copy of the xml file and changed the FileName atrribute to FileName="" and named it PowerDVD8-CyberLink -Blu-ray.xml.

I have not tested this thoroughly but it seems to work. I did not change any of the number button attributes so if you're going to use them you should try changing the KeyAction command to see if that works.

Don't forget to run AppIdentifier and change Identifier ClassName="ATL:005E6938" in the xml to whatever AppIdentifier returns on your computer. I don't know if it will be different from mine.

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

Good work Junior. You took it farther than I did and got what looks like a complete solution.

Of note: This problem happens without playing Blu-Ray. I don't even have a Blu-Ray player or any Blu-Ray disks. All you have to do is play something full-screen and the attributes for Firefly change. It's PowerDVD 8 Ultra that's the problem.

Update:
I tried Junior's PowerDVD profiles and they work fine. I did have to change the ATL code to match my system.

Bye.

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

I've update the files to include more actions for more buttons. I had only worked on getting basic functionality working before just to see if I could find something that would work.

I saw the FileName attribute change while playing movies in a window, not full screen. Maybe it's me but, I could not find a way to see if there is a change reported by AppIdentifier while running in fullscreen mode in PowerDVD. If I switched windows between PowerDVD in full screen mode and AppIdentifier, I got a Windows Explorer command back from AppIdentifier.

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

It's interesting that you got slightly different behavior with PowerDVD 8 Ultra than I did. It might be a difference in our versions of Windows or the particular video controller and driver we each have. I was able to grab the full-screen PowerDVD with AppIdentifier, as well as the windowed version. It could be that I don't have Blu-ray anything, but have the Blu-ray capable PowerDVD. I wanted the newer PowerDVD so I could easily play the HD files from my HD camcorder. PowerDVD plays the raw files perfectly. My AVCHD camcorder records what appears to be a Blu-ray disk structure, so having a Blu-ray player is what I wanted. In fact, when I play the raw files from my camcorder, PowerDVD wants to see the Blu-ray structure.

Thanks for the updated profile.

Bye.

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

I am having the same issue but with the firefly mini. Do I have any options? I guess I can use that LM software.

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

Junior, thanks so much. I had given up on this issue, but just happened to check back in and see the results. I'll try them tonight!!

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

My issue seems to be similar, yet different. If I launch PowerDVD from MediaPlayer(light) then I can controll it with Firefly. If PowerDVD launches from Windows autoplay, then it is not recognized.

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

Junior!! You the man!!! Now I can control PowerDVD 8!!! This rocks!

I had to make a single mod and set ClassName="ATL:005E99E0". After this, the baby was styling!

Thank you so much!! Here's to you!

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

One more thing... I set my DVD button to launch PowerDVD 8 on the Firefly remote. The problem is, is that focas remains in Windows Explorer and does not allow control of PowerDVD until I click in the full screen window. Any idea on how to script the change of focus???

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

Sweet! I found a solution to my final problem. If I put the path to the PowerDVD executable into a batch file, and bind the batch file to the button, then focus is put in PowerDVD and the Firefly functions work as the should.

Re: PowerDVD8 and BluRay not working

This is just a heads up to everyone. I believe the new update to PowerDVD 8 Ultra build 2217a breaks keyboard commands during Blu-Ray playback.

I still have control over DVD playback but, Blu-Ray no longer responds to the remote or direct commands typed via the keyboard.

Anyone else have this trouble?
