I am running Beyond TV 4.x and Beyond Media 1.x up until this AM my Firefly
remote worked perfectly. This afternoon I want to use it and it no longer functions. I tried to the setup for Firefly and when I press the OK button when prompted it is not detected. I have changed the batteries and have tried it on my second HTPC with the same results. At this point is there something else that I can try short of ordering a new one? Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

Re: Firefly remote stopped working
mine doesn't work anymore either. It's not an out-of-sync problem, the black receiver is not being detected by the software. I've been using my remote just fine for a few weeks now.
2 days ago, I tried using my remote and nothing. I looked on the TV and the little red light was off. so I unplugged the USB and replugged it. The red light went back on, the remote worked fine again. The next day, the light was off again. I did the same thing, the little red LED went on, but the remote would not function. So, I entered the FireFly setup it asks for me to plug the receiver into the USB port and hangs on that screen. The receiver is plugged in, the little red light is on, Device manager sees a 'Snapstream FireFly' plugged into the USB port, but the software isn't doing shi*. I just upgraded to the latest Firefly build and still nothing. |

I have same problem, and this problemis a shitty one, because I cant get into the fu*** software to set the all channels or whatever, because the setup does NOT recognize my fU*** ok button. So there should be a way to "reset" the remotecontrol channel or ? please send me that info please, before i go mad, crazy or kill the neighbours cat....

Snapstream had offered a replacement provided I use the same packaging it had shipped with. That was 9 months ago and I had since tossed away all the boxes! I am a "casual" user, no kids and just myself using it. I concider it low quality if it only lasted less than a year. I will not keep on replacing this remote with this track record. I hope that I can use a proven remote with Beyond TV . Oh and yes I did change the batteries! |

Re: Firefly remote stopped working
Check and see if the x10nets.exe is running under processes. I accidentally disabled it (in the services) and when I went to use the remote, it stoped working. Re enabling it got it working again.
Check this and see if that's the problem. Or if the x10nets.dll is corrupt. Rob |

Re: Firefly remote stopped working
I'm having the same problem now. I had installed it, it was working and then the next day it stopped working. The reciever is not being detected. Device manager does not show any un-installed/unrecognized devices. When I run the setup wizard and plug it in when asked, it just sits there and doesn't do anything. I've tried plugging it into different USB ports, I know that they work, since I have used other devices in them.
The light is on, so I know that it is getting power. It seems that about 1/2 the time when I plug it in, windows doesn't even give me the notification that a USB device has been installed. The other 1/2 the time, it says that there was a problem installing the device. I tried starting in safe mode with it plugged in, but there are no unrecognized devices in the device manager to uninstall. Some help would really be appreciated. Ed |

Re: Firefly remote stopped working
I am also having the same problem. One day the remote stopped working, but the red light on the receiver was still lit. I tried reinstalling the software and got the same situation others mentioned: the wizard won't recognize the receiver. I have no idea if Windows is recognizing the receiver or not. Where would I look to see a list of USB devices attached?
I recently reinstalled WinXP on this system for other reasons and I still can't get the receiver recognized by the installation wizard. Has anyone opened a support ticket for this? |

Re: Firefly remote stopped working
I've used 4 different Fireflys on 6 different PCs without a problem. I would suspect, as mentioned earlier, a USB port problem before I would think that it would be a Firefly receiver problem. esp. since you mentioned the power light working, then not working.

Re: Firefly remote stopped working
The power light on the receiver has always worked, even when the remote was not. I have tried plugging it into all my USB ports and nothing happens. This worked fine on this computer for over a year. I will try other USB peripherals to see if there is a problem. I currently have a USB mouse plugged in and it works fine.
How would one go about finding out what Windows sees connected to the USB ports? I looked in Device Manager and didn't see any specific list of devices hooked to USB. |

Re: Firefly remote stopped working
Hey it is no different than any other remote. If it doesn't work, bang it on the end table. That'll get 'er fixed!
![]() I have never had any issues with my firefly. I know some USB ports can be unreliable on some motherboards though. I would recommend switching the ports around.
