I was playing around with ss for about a week now. I was disappointed that there was no support for “live TV” streaming with the PVR 250. I did find a work around
. This is what you need to do: 1. go to configuration --> Timeshifting 2. Choose “Yes” for Always Timeshifting 3. Note the location of the Buffer file (I set mine to be d:\snap-vid\live) 4. save changes 5. go to configuration --> Recording Preferences 6. Change the Default Quality “Fair” 7. Save changes Share the folder you set up for timeshifting (d:\snap-vid\live). Now you need a player that will not complain about open files. I use VideoLAN http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (works on all platforms.). Map a drive to the share you just set up. (I set V: to point to \\192.168.0.11\live). Now Start the VideoLAN Client (vlc). Open the file tsbuffer.dat. Ok this solution is not perfect but better than nothing. I have tested this on WinXP home&pro and Linux (Debian). have fun! jayklm |

I agree but SageTV did not work as well for me as SnapStream did. So I selected snapstream.
The steps I listed above are not much work at all. Like I said, it is not perfect. I am sure the SnapStream guys are working on some sort of client/server. If not, I can live with doing live TV with the timeshift buffer. ![]() This method also works with WinTV in pause mode. jayklm |

Snapstream says all over the knowledge base that as long as you are currently taping a show, you can stream it "live".
They even have you punch open port 8080 for Live Video. However any time you try to pull it up Windows Media Player says no server. I think snapstream is a great product, but it ought to do what they say it will. And also, it should have an MP3 / WMA music files feature. Wouldn't that be killer if you could stream music with it like you can with Sage? |

Sorry it was late and I pasted the link over the text.
Snapstream does not have to do it themselves. There is an SDK for real-time transcoding. I don't know if it actually works abd it would add cost to the program, but they would not have to reinvent the wheel. |

Acctully, MPEG2 transcoding is already done with the PVR 250 and the PVR 350. Just trying to stream without having to transcoding/encode any video.
The whole point to my post was to share something I stumbled upon. Live video works fine for me using my method. Once you set everything up, it just works. Last edited by jayklm; 10-02-2003 at 05:58 PM. |

Yes - it does.. I've set it up on my machines and it works well, even at the "Best" quality level.
I did have it "freeze" at one point (after running fine for many minutes), but that may have been when my screen saver was going to kick in.. Not sure. I toyed with SageTV last night some, and it works great, but boy does the interface stink. Paul |
