Sony, RCA DSS Serial Tuner Module

z0rak has another release of the DSS serial tuner module out -- and we've learned that the same tuner module also works with (and has been tested with) RCA 3gen and 5gen DSS receivers.

The new DLL also works on any COM port -- it scans for the port so if your receiver is properly connected to your PC, you should be able to use the module out of the box.

Post your results here -- you'll find the new DLL located at:
http://www.snapstream.com/products/i...er/sonydss.htm

I'm sure you do, but to be sure, by RCA 3gen, do you mean models numbered as such: "3xxx"?

OK, radical_fish has sent me the pin-out diagrams for RCA 3gen and 4gen receivers and we've put them up on the site:
http://www.snapstream.com/products/i...le-diagram.htm

These cables and the dss.dll tuner module by z0rak have been tested with Sony receivers and RCA receivers (DRD303RA and DRD420RE).

Try it out and tell us what you think!

The 9pin - 15pin cable diagram at:
http://www.snapstream.com/products/i...le-diagram.htm

did not work for me. The numbering appears to be backward in the diagram vs. the numbering that is physically imprinted on a 9-pin female and a 15-pin male.

However this site's did work:
http://www.isd.net/mevenmo/sonydssdiag.html

I'm using a RCA DRD303RA. BTW, my understanding is that this is a 2nd generation, not a 3rd generation unit.

The pictures on SnapStreams web page are numbered as if you are looking at the wiring side (back) of the connectors.

The pinout given is correct.
DB9 DB15 Signal
5 13 GND
2 14 RD
3 6 TD

This is the same way the Phillips Tivo adaptor is wired. Pin 13 is Ground.

This works for my RCA DRD303RA.

Anyone know pin-outs or tried this with a Zenith DTH 310-4 ? I don't have a cable long enough to try right now so was wondering if anyone else has tried the above combo.

Can I have the API calls so I can make a real-time tuner for myself?

If I am reading this correctly I only need 3 wires between the 2 jacks? I ask because all the links to wiring diagrams are 404

Re: Sony, RCA DSS Serial Tuner Module

http://www.snapstream.com/Community/...xternaltuners/ has the diagram.

Also http://www.dtvcontrol.com/ has one.

And yes you only need Transmit, Receive, and Ground wires.

Re: Sony, RCA DSS Serial Tuner Module

Thanks, that picture is for the RJ6, I have DB15. But I can follow the pin outs, just wanted to be sure that 3 wires is all I needed. Off to Staples to get cable ends.

Question Re: Sony, RCA DSS Serial Tuner Module

Does anyone know if 3.5 will drop use of the RCA tuning dll. I tried 3.5RC1 and I had to manually edit the serial command file to get it to stop resetting my RCA486RH. After that fix, it was not able to tune any channels. The channel up and down do not work. Are we suppose to put together new config files for each tuner in the future?

Scratching my head on this one, any info or clues appreciated?
