HD Trailers Plugin for Beyond Media

Ok, so a long time waiting and it's finally done. This plugin for Beyond Media gets the list of HD trailers from Yahoo! Movies and allows the user to view details and download any of the available trailers in 480p, 720p and/or 1080p. There are two main views: Poster view and Title and Actors view. Also, there is a file library built in to see what's been downloaded and give the user to ability to delete them.

See the attachments for the screenshots.

Usage:
From the poster View,
-Left and Right views the posters, enter to view details.
-Up to get to the View button to change to Title and Actors View.

From the Title and Actors View,
-Up and Down to view the Titles, enter to view details.
-Right to get to the View button to change to Poster View.

From the Details View,
-Select a trailer in the list and hit enter to download. A Quicktime Downloading icon will appear on the bottom right while it is downloading.
-Once a trailer is downloaded, there will be a red play button. Hit enter to play.

From the Library View,
-Select a trailer to play by hitting enter or hit D (on the Firefly remote too) to delete. Files will be removed depending on the Settings Menu (Default: 7 days).

Known Issues:
-When a trailer is selected for download, the Download icon will turn to a Play icon in the list, but the movie is not downloaded yet. Just wait for the QT Download icon on the bottom right to disappear.
-Navigating between the Poster and Title screens creates a breadcrumb trail that when exiting the plugin makes the user go through each one as entered. Still working on a way around this.

History:
-Version 1.0b
-Released to the public for verification. Please get me some feedback!

Wow - very nice!

A lot of dev work for a program you can't buy anymore though.

Re: HD Trailers Plugin for Beyond Media

I thought I had everything working, but for some reason everything is downloading at 480p. Should have a fix tomorrow. Got softball and taekwondo tonight!

Re: HD Trailers Plugin for Beyond Media

Yeah turns out I was so excited to make the post that I forgot to check a bug that I ignored for a while. The plugin was only downloading 480p versions, regardless of the link. But I found the bug and need to put the fix in and clean up some code in the morning. And while doing that, I found another bug that was causing some trailers to get skipped.

And Brent, the reasons are because,
1- I use BM everyday with XM Radio and DVD Library.
2- I paid for this program so I am getting everything I can from it since I'm not making the jump to another front end anytime soon. This is simple and works for what I want now. It could be my ignorance, or on the flip side, my comfort with it.
3- I find it easy to work with the BM SDK even though it is limited.
4- I find it fun to program these things! Strange as it sounds.
5- Maybe, JUST MAYBE, one day the BTV SDK will allow for plugins and it may be easy for me to migrate BM code into it.. right...

Re: HD Trailers Plugin for Beyond Media

Hey, no rush...the plugin would be a "nice to have" but I'd rather not have to update it several times so do what you need.

>simple and works for what I want now

Yep, and it works with my remote and BTV and I don't have to learn/tweak/hack some other UI for the few things I use.

Re: HD Trailers Plugin for Beyond Media

Well, it has potential but having quite a few problems. Most importantly, I have no navigation cursor...should there be one? In DVD Library there is a small disc cursor but I have nothing for the remote with this plugin. No highlight with a mouse either.
Also, when I select "View" and fumble around and pick a trailer (usually the wrong one but..) it goes into the Trailer Library section but there's no status on if it's still downloading or what. Usually I get "unable to play the selected file" when I try. I did get ONE to play...the new Ice Age trailer, but that's it. Also in the Settings I see a choice for the plugin but nothing to configure...hmmm.
This is all on my Link1 system shown in my sig. I'll try it on the server tomorrow.

What skin are you using? I have highlights with the default skin. I didn't think about that.

When you pick a trailer, there should be a QT icon appear at the bottom right to indicate its downloading. In the first post I noted,
-When a trailer is selected for download, the Download icon will turn to a Play icon in the list, but the movie is not downloaded yet. Just wait for the QT Download icon on the bottom right to disappear.
Maybe that's what you have to wait for?
And yeah, I noticed the settings screen isn't appearing. I forgot to re enable it after debugging.

Re: HD Trailers Plugin for Beyond Media

Good catch...I was using the BTV Skin. Switched to Classic and now have the cursor.

>When a trailer is selected for download, the Download icon will turn to a Play icon in the list, but the movie is not downloaded yet. Just wait for the QT Download icon on the bottom right to disappear.

I saw that earlier but it never seems to disappear. Maybe it's because I'm choosing more than one trailer before it finishes? I'd hoped I could queue up a few then come back and watch them all once the icon went away.

What happens is that everytime you click on a trailer to download, it goes into a download thread and the QT icon appears. The downloads happen in parallel also. Once all downloads are done, the icon disappears. Now, that doesn't mean that others haven't finished and you can't play them. You just have to take a guess . I didnt come up with a status indicator for each download thread. So if you click on one to play, and it says unable to play file, that just means its not done downloading. Individual status indicators would be nice.. but.. see cfaslave's comment above.. is it really worth it?

Re: HD Trailers Plugin for Beyond Media

Having the right skin helped a lot...looks pretty nice overall. What is in the Settings that I might be missing or did you re-enable that?

Yeah, I have to look into the skin thing. There's an old, OLD thread where kilrsat talks about how the highlighting doesn't always work right with other skins. Maybe thats the case here too. Makes me wonder how my XM Radio plugin works in BM. And in the settings menu is a setting for how long to keep the trailers for (expiration). But I did notice a bug with the posters not appearing if BM is left on for days. Restarting BM fixed it.. bugs galore.. that's why I released it as beta so I can get some critical user feedback.
