Sounds like some serious issues with the stream... Make sure your system is up to date (i.e. XP SP1 or earlier had some firewire issue at high bit rates, like HD...) and make sure not to record a video resolution switch (i.e. going from a SD to HD channel). Maybe try to run the mpeg2repair'ed file through VideoRedo?

Re: GrafCorder

yeah i tried that, still didnt work. im using vista home basic with a dell laptop that is only a few months old. the only thing that i think might be the issue, im using an expresscard to 1394 adapter for my latop, since it doesnt have built in firewire. this has worked great for me capturing DV footage from a dv camera. but i have had problems with it using an external 1394 hard drive. it works fine reading a file off the drive to teh internal laptop drive, but if i try to send a file from the laptop to the external drive, it goes real slow. im not sure if this is why i cant record from the dvr or not.

and i dont think there is anything wrong with the dvr or my drivers. like i said, i can record sd programming fine using capdvhs, vlc and grafcorder. its just the hd capturing that is way to pixelated and choppy.

another quick question though. with my old motorola box, i could capture recorded programs and live tv. with this new pace box, i can only get a stream from live tv. recorded tv gives me nothing.

Right, some cable company/box combo can do both, some only LiveTV, some only playback of recordings and some get neither.

Re: GrafCorder

Ok, I've been fighting with this for a week now and I'm oh-so-close but I can't get one last little bit. If I record from the command line I'm fine as I put everything in myself but when I try to get this to work with btv-externinator I can get all of the stuff in the parameters but I have no idea how to get the time in there. How do I go about setting up the parameters to grab this? If I'm in the wrong thread or if this has been answered I'm sorry but I've tried every search I know of and can't find it. Thnaks in advance.

Why would you want to manually add the time? BTVE will use the proper timing according to the recording...

Re: GrafCorder

I'm sorry, I explained badly. When BTV-E tries to launch grafcorder I get a box that comes up that says "not enough arguments" or something similar. When I check the log I see the command that fires off grafcorder and it's missing a time element:

9/13/2009 3:30:00 PM :: Firewire0: d:\grafcorder\grafcorder.exe "d:\overflow\test.grf" E:\MyVideos\Pranked-2009-09-13-1.tp

I suppose I'm missing something in the parameters box or I'm missing how BTV passes the duration information to grafcorder.

Re: GrafCorder

Tinkered around a bit more and here's the error that pops up:

---------------------------

---------------------------
Invalid Stop Time E:\MyVideos\Biz
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Here's the line from the log when it tries to fire off the recording:

9/14/2009 10:00:00 AM :: Firewire0: d:\grafcorder\grafcorder.exe d:\overflow\test.grf E:\MyVideos\Biz Kid$-(How Credit Affects Your Life)-2009-09-14-1.tp

That's the problem right there, you are not using the GrafCorder tab, but instead using the Firewire+ tab... So it's not supplying the proper parameters... So go back to the controls, enable GrafCorder recording, disable Firewire+ and fill the proper tab...

Don't worry, just too many features/functionality crammed in such a small utility...
