On the Upcoming sub-tab, you can either have the tuner number or its name... This used to be with the Filter sub-tab...

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

Version .05 (alpha) is available:

- Fix: some check boxes were not updating the configuration file.

- HDHomeRun: it is possible to use a channel scan when creating the table of Channels. (you still need to do most of the work, but if the scan contains enough informations...)

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

fonceur,

sequence error with 'vlc first' recordings......there is a case where the new hdhr0 is defined and started but old one was not stopped and deleted

otherwise, seems to be working ok

desired behavior is
define hdhr0
start hdrh0
stop hdhr0
delete hdhr0
then, can set up next hdhr0...point being that after stopping hdhr0, we delete it before define next usage.

i believe the 'vlc first' setup is not always following that as 'hdhr first' did.
see RED comment below

Actually, I don't think the error has anything to do with "vlc first"...

From the log, you have added some recording jobs after a recording had already started, in order to create some back to back recordings and forced some updates... There seems to be something wrong with my code to handle such uncommon and non-trivial cases....

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

ok....thanks

if that is the cause, i wouldn't worry about it (right now)...let me schedule some other back-back tests without updating like that (i.e. clean restart of the plugin)

edit: have multiple back-back recordings scheduled for 10-12pm to test

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

Update: rebooted the server again and the runaway file stopped. I'm still not sure what was happening, and I had to leave so I was doing it in the car taking my son to karate! Thank goodness for PocketPC's and bluetooth dialup connections!

Now I'll download the new version and try out that non-PID goodness.

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

I scheduled a recording for 11:30 PM and after discovering that I needed to check "Auto execute", I saw in the log that it was "possibly setting up" to do the recording. In BTV's log it set a wakeup for 11:27 PM.

Nothing happened. Checked at 11:35 PM and no more messages in the logs, no file being recorded, nothing.

What could I be missing? I have a virtual tuner created with the right SS lineup assigned (with one channel unhid), and that channel assigned to the right RF-Program for the HDHR. Seems to be okay as best I can tell.

Also, in the external source tab, I see an IP address of 192.168.0.255, but I am using 192.168.1.X for my subnet. I can't seem to change this IP, when I do it doesn't stick.

Thanks, Z

Make sure that on the Upcoming sub-tab you do see that schedulled recording on the HDHR tuner...

You do need to force a save, like by toggling the "Auto execute"...

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

fonceur,

1) 'vlc first' recording were all fine here, so you can eliminate the switch if you want.

2) the issue about sequencing when updates occur should probably be fixed at some point. the file created that way, without the stop/delete sequence first, was unplayable on my zensonic network media player.

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

It's still not starting the jobs for me. I see a 'setting wakeup' message in the BTV log, I see the job in the BTVE upcoming job list, I see in the BTVE log that it's setting up to do the recording, but the nothing happens.

Could this be a problem with how I created the virtual tuner? I tried to do it as it says on the BTVN web page but could have goofed it up. What would be the best way for me to delete that tuner and start over?

Thanks, Z

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

Tried my first recording withe the sub-program option instead of PIDs....but chickened out this morning after seeing that someone had a file that wouldn't stop growing......gonna test new stuff only when i'm home!!

in any case, i've got a problem here......the log looks like it set up the commands correctly and a file is being created.....however, NetPerSec is showing me a 40mbps stream, so it looks like PID-filtering is not happening for the subprogram (#6 in this case)........also vlc was running ~20% cpu, way over the 2% i get with pid filtering.

i'm going to stop the recording manually, look at the file, and play around with batch commands to see how the alternate pid-filtering method works.

edit: played file in vlc.....good news only 1 program is shown, but stream was whole 40mbps....maybe this option creates pmt table correctly but doesn't filter pids at all?.........also, recording was not on correct channel.....don't know what that is about.

anyone out there having success with program method vs. pids?

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

did the same sequence manually in a dos window and the program 6 stream gave me 3mpbs, as it should....not sure why BTVext had streaming at 40mbps

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

cat6man, is there a trick to setting up the virtual tuner? Does it have to somehow be set to an unused input on a real capture device or something like that?

I'm thinking that must be the problem I'm having since BTV doesn't seem to do anything to kick off the recording, unless it's BTV-E that is supposed to do it.

Also, in my CLI testing, PID filtering doesn't seem to work. I have only worked with the 12/14 and newer firmware loads, don't know if you are still on an older version or not. Setting the program with the CLI does seem to work and produces the smaller file.

do you have BTV-E on? BTV doesn't control it at all....BTV-E must be on at all times! (all BTV does is give error messages when it tries to tune a tuner that it isn't connected to.....BTV-E does all the rest, and must be running...i keep it minimized)

as for pids, they work fine for me and i'm on the latest hdhr loads.

you should be able to open a dos window, use the same commands in the same sequence that you see in the btv-E.log file (modify the \\ to \), and have it work fine

fonceur,
just guessing here........
possibly the hdhr needs some delay inserted to map the 'program' to pids?
i assume it has to figure out the mapping so maybe that is why 40mbps kept hitting my machine.
