Good!

Now I just need someone to confirm that the Firewire recordings are still working and I can eliminate the External recordings from BTV-Negociator!

last night cfaslave said that he finds the hdhr stream is in fact working ok by checking with netpersec....therefore hdhr is not shutting down, correct?
if there is no udp streaming, that is consistent with what fonceur is saying.

however, if the udp streaming is ok without vlc started, the issue is still why won't vlc pick it up for him?

cfaslave: is this correct? if so, i assume you have vlc turned off.
now after starting the streaming, and netpersec shows udp transmission is fine, can you manually start vlc and open the network stream? or is it just the automated sequence that fails without the 'correct' sequence?

The official answer from Nick is:

2) Set channel.
3) Set program number.
4) Launch VLC.
5) Wait 250ms.
6) Set target.
7) Wait 250ms
8) Read target.
9) If target == "none" then goto 5.

VLC will take a few seconds to launch.
The HDHomeRun will clear the target if it receives an ICMP packet (in this case when the target is set before VLC is ready).
Could you try enabling the "VLC first" to see if it also works for you? If it does, I would hardcode it instead of leaving it as an option...

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

That's the process I used to do a manual recording. Set the channel, set the program, set VLC to record the stream, then set the target.

On another note, is the HDHomeRun-Program tab supposed to be working? It looks like you load your scanned channel list and then associate a lineup channel with a scanned channel. I guess it isn't implemented yet?

In the meantime should I be able to do anything with the Channel(HDHR) tab or should I just wait since my cable is HRC?

Thanks, Z

Indeed, there is nothing "under the hood" yet, I was waiting on analyzing the various channel scan files I received before implementing it.

Even if you are using HRC, I still think that you should be able to save a file and find out the PID's in it... Otherwise, wait a bit longer for the Program support...

Yes, I've done that. The filter command doesn't work for me though, tried it on a couple of channels and I'm still getting a full stream. I can do some testing with it though while I wait patiently for you to implement the new stuff.

Also, I figured out what was wrong with creating a lineup. I had a bogus unnamed lineup that was preventing me from creating a new one from Snapstream.net. Once I deleted that in the Setup Wizard I was able to create a new one that contains all my QAM channels. It's always the little things...

Regards,
Z

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

Version .04 (alpha) is available:

- HDHomeRun: added support for the Program filtering instead of the PID filtering.

Only one copy of each Channel is mapped, so adding the Program filter will remove it from the PID filter and vice-versa. Now time to play with the channel scan files...

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

Playing around, I now have a runaway file that keeps growing. Rebooted the server and it started up again. Power cycled the hdhr but it kept growing. Seems like vlc is causing it but no vlc procs in task manager. How do I kill this thing?

thanks....by the way, please do not delete the PID version....there may be issues with having more than 1 audio pid that impacts network media players and/or "hdtvtompeg2" software....i'm still investigating.

Re: BTV-Externinator - Alpha release

i'm trying to sneak in a test with vlc first before dinner.......i set the parameter, did a save parameters, closed and reopened....but vlc first was off again........i just checked it again, hit apply..........is that correct?

where is 'vlc first' parameter saved?

edit: just started test, and it seems to be recording ok so far.....will set up more tests during dinner......looks like it works both ways for me but i want to test more extensively before committing.
