Lightbulb BTV Remote Development

I've been looking to fiddle with some plugin development in VB.net, and I've been searching the forums to find information on how to set up a project using these fancy web references. I can't find good information on the steps involved. Can anyone help?

I'm not too terribly familiar with .NET, i've done some development in VB6, but at least if i can get the project set up, than I can at least mess around from there.

So what am i missing to get remote development started? Like most people, I don't want to have to do my programming on the dedicated BTV machine...

Thanks!

Re: BTV Remote Development

Huh, good luck. I don't think they ever made accomodations for those who wanted to develop remotely. The only way that is possible I think is to buy a copy of BTV Link, install that on your dev machine and then you're set. Or is there another way, anyone?

It has sure stiffled my development. I hadn't had any other need for BTV Link and so haven't purchased it...just to develop freeware code. Oh well.

Re: BTV Remote Development

Thanks for the heads up. Has anyone come up with a way without using BTV Link? I don't have any use for btv link, i just want to fiddle w/ plugins.

Re: BTV Remote Development

There is definitely a way to do this.

I have already developed an asp.net http handler that allows complete remote development using the BTV SDK web services. It is almost completely transparent and it is even possible to create an application that will work both remotely and locally.

I have also developed a small tray application that allows me to watch live TV without the web interface from a remote computer.

However, upon re-reading the license agreement of the BTV SDK I found that snapstream has hammered down this option reasonably well shut.

Quote:
Remote Access using Beyond TV, Beyond TV Link, or the Web Admin:

If user wishes to access the Beyond TV SDK from a computer, or other device, other than the computer with the registered copy of Beyond TV (“remote device), user must either:

1. Obtain a Beyond TV license for the remote device being used to access the computer with the registered copy of Beyond TV;

2. Obtain a Beyond TV Link license for the remote device being used to access the computer with the registered copy of Beyond TV; or

3. Use the Web Admin via a web browser on the remote device being used to access the computer with the registered copy of Beyond TV.
Now I have wondered myself that, if Live TV is allowed through the web interface, why am I not allowed to use Live TV directly through the SDK?

But in any case, it made me very hesitant to release my code. Maybe snapstream would like to comment?
