Talking Proposal - why not merge BTV and SAGE?

lets face it - clearly btv has a preferred interface but is lacking things like multiple tuners, and sage comes with better default settings, multiple tuners, etc.

why not split the difference and MERGE? take the best of each side and cut down on the griping!

I can definitely see the logic in this as I am in the same boat as you, nrf. I love Sage's flexibility, networking/client capabilities, and the ability to use Multiple Tuners (Although I haven't got that quite working yet.)

On the other hand, I love BTV3's interface. It's close enough to TIVO so that the family is comfortable, yet it has it's own distinctive style.

A partnership of Sage abd BTV3 (Plus maybe a little Myth for News, Weather and Web menu items) would create the perfect PVR software package.

I realize it's a snowball's chance in hell, but...

......to dream, perchance to dream....

Not like that would ever happen, but think of the benefit we would loose as consumers.

Sage would not be getting the new interface and BTV would not be getting multi-tuner. At least none would be coming as fast as it is. Competition is really driving these two companies.

Hehehe, are you in for a suprise with 3.5

(And no I am not referring to well known fact that 3.5 will include Dual Tuners)

Besides Cmasters is correct!

Thats all I have to say,
Brett

Yeah well did you ever think a Sonic game would be released on a Nintendo?

Not that I would want Sage to merge, just proving a point

Cool

while I agree competition is great, what happens when providers compete by focusing on a disjoint capability set? you still have two aggrevating products and less money in your pocket by the time you reach satisfaction!

Do we have an ETA on 3.5?

Trying not to appear desperate.

Coming from a programmers point of view, WTF?

There is no inherent possibilities of merging the programs. They are completely different, it would take JUST as long to merge as it would take to develop all the missing features separately in each program, if not longer.

This isn't even a possibility to merge, much less the competition angle.

This is like saying "I like linux's security with windows ease of use, why don't we just merge them."

I don't think he meant merge them in that way? I thought he meant round all the programmers up from SS add Dan/Jeff and then lock them in a room until BeyondSage 4.0 comes out

If you shake 'em hard enough they do.

Let's emulsify our dev. teams into creating the best BTV yet!

3.5: Are we there yet?
