[addon] BTV4 Info

Author: jbartlett777

Short Description: Yahoo Widget for displaying tuner status & upcoming recordings
Long Description: A Yahoo (Konfabulator) widget that will display your tuner status & upcoming recordings
Version Number: 1.0
Status:
Last Updated:
Homepage:
Installation Instructions: Save the widget file to your computer and start it. On initial load, the preferences will be displayed and you must enter your BTV server information. This version queries the BTV server directory via web services and requires your BTV license (server if running on the BTV server, otherwise the link license). If you are using user credentials, enter a valid User ID and Password - otherwise leave blank. If the server can't be contacted, a small window will display stating so and provide a button for editing the preferences. Note that sometimes the server is slow to respond on the initial contact and the widget will report it can't connect. It will automatically retry.

Release Notes: Download the Yahoo Widget engine from http://widgets.yahoo.com/download/ Any active recording is marked in the Upcoming Recordings page with the color selected via the preferences for "Recording Text Color".
License:
Requirements: Yahoo Widgets version 4.5

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

I'm confused about the BTV license. I have BTV 4.9 running on one computer. On another computer I have Yahoo Widgets; no BTV Link or anything. I can open the URL to the Web Admin through the browser but when I use the widget and put the same url and use my BTV License it says it cant connect. I'm using User ID administrator with no password because I never set one.

EDIT: Turns out if I remove the BTV License and have no user name it works.

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

Known Issues

Resizing the width of the Tuner window doesn't resize the tuner window properly after saving the preferences. However, it does display properly after restarting the widget.

Interesting - I never tried this combination.

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

Thanks for the great add-on. Just one question, though, is there any way to increase the font size?

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

Nope. I had to do a lot of fine tuning to get that font size to fit and size correctly regardless of the screen width. Changing the font size throws everything to the wind.

This is one awesome add-on. Probably the best we've had in a while. We need more great add-ons. Thanks for this one.

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

Hi...this is a very nice job, and I really like using this widget. I just have a question about when I reboot, the btv info widget will just sit there, and say "server error" "unable to connect to btv server", and gives you the button for the preferences. It's not until I hit the preferences button, and click save (I don't even have to make any changes), but at that point it will load up with my upcoming recordings. Is there anything I can do, so it automatically loads on bootup? Other than that, this widget is perfect for me

BTW...I saw this "Note that sometimes the server is slow to respond on the initial contact and the widget will report it can't connect. It will automatically retry."....but how long does it take for it to retry? I've let it set for about 5 minutes or so...and I have the "refresh" set to 30 seconds within the preferences.

Thanks

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

Well, it should automatically retry every minute. I'll have to look at that logic.

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

Alternatively, do a google search for 'delay startup items' and try one of the free applications that can delay when items start. Make the widget start after BTV has fully started.

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

That may not help. I've noticed that the BTV Website can take awhile to come up the first time it's fetched and that could be long after BTV itself has started.

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

I don't see this problem when I reboot my computer, it connects right to my BTV server. I suspect that maybe Windows hasn't finished setting up the network when the widget is started in fierygt's case.

Now, when I reboot the BTV server, I get the "lost connection" window from the widget, and it takes about 10-15 minutes from the time the server is rebooted until the widget starts getting the data again. Seems like it should connect sooner, but it isn't really a problem so I never bothered to mention it. Sounds like what jbartlett777 mentioned above.

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

Well....I already had startup delayer installed for other things on my machine, so i went ahead and tried it. It worked! I delayed the widget 20 seconds, and it's working great.

Re: [addon] BTV4 Info

This widget always resets back to a defaults position on the top middle of my desktop. Anytime I try to move it, a few seconds later it will move back to where it wants to be. I also tried locking its position in the widget preferences. Any ideas?
