merci Fonceur,

How do you change the channels on the STB, via FW or USB-irt?

Fantastic concept.

It depends on the setup, but yes Tim Moore made some channel(w).exe(dll) for that. Though personally I prefer to have a real capture card record through s-video (channel changes through my USB-UIRT), then BTVE grabs a second copy over firewire. Should anything go wrong with the firewire copy, I still have the SD version as a backup...

Re: BTV-Externinator for BTV >= 4.8

I'm trying to connect BTV 4.9.2 to my STB via Firewire and am having a bit of trouble. I've installed the necessary drivers and can view TV on the PC over FireWire using VLC, and I can change channels over FireWire using channel.exe, so I know I'm very close. My problem is understanding and configuring BTV-externinator.

First, I need a better understanding of BTVE and how it is supposed to work. By "associating" with a tuner card, am I adding the STB channels to those that the existing tuner card already receives? I went into BTVE and created a new virtual tuner, associated it with an existing tuner, and then set the channel lineup to match what the STB receives. However, when I try to tune a STB-only channel in BTV, the STB does not change channels and I don't see the video on BTV.

Could someone give me a better overview of what I'm supposed to do with BTVE?

Thanks!
Dan

BTVE only works to record upcoming recordings, BTV just doesn't expose what would be required for LiveTV (i.e. SageTV's network encoder concept)...

Thanks for the reply - that certainly explains it.

I guess what I really need is something like a BDA driver for the FireWire port so that BTV would see it as yet another tuner. Has anyone written something like that?

If not, do any of the other PVR packages (Myth, etc.) natively support a STB connected via FireWire?

Dan

Re: BTV-Externinator for BTV >= 4.8

I'm afraid I'm not entirely clear on how to configure BTVE for use with GrafCorder. Basically, I have it working, but ...

Could you give me the pros and cons of (1) "associating" with an existing tuner, (2) "cloning" a tuner, and (3) a "virtual tuner"?

Thanks!
Dan
