I can say that the error is cause by some character that BTV does not like. I probably will not get to looking into this weekend so if you can wait a couple days before I can get a fix out for this.
Ok found the fix but do to the time tonight i will not publish the next version till this weekend.

it did have to deal with the ' I only took care of the change around in the episode description and not the feed title or the feed description or display title

Re: [addon] BTV Podcatcher

I have a request for a new feature in BTV Podcatcher. I would like to be able to run processing on a downloaded file, and have the new processed file replace the original so that all the "show info" stuff is still correct but I have the file I want.

My wife has a couple of good podcasts that she subscribes to that are only available in .mov format. To watch them in BTV, I have run format converter manually. That's not horrible, but then I also have to recreate all of the show info stuff through the admin tool. It's really a lot easier to fire up the quicktime player and view it that way, but it's annoying because we'd both just rather use BTV.

Plus, she's really jealous that shows like Cranky Geeks (my shows) show up as a new show in BTV but all of her stuff has to be viewed <ahem> manually.

I gotta admit, the integration of all the show info is a great feature of the Podcatcher. So... if there was a simple way to fire off a command to a converter it would be a giant step forward.

I will look in to doing something like that but I probably will not get around to doing for some time.

First off what tool are you using to convert the podcast file (this will help me in making sure it works from BTV Podcatcher)

I do have one question that you might be able to help with how will my program know the new converted file name and extension to write the properties. I might have to have this a part of the setup of the the command in BTV Podcatcher but there would be some liminitation mainly if the file that the external tool was converting to already exists before the tool was run (example file a.m4v exist and btv downloads a.mov [that file name does note exists when we started] then the tool runs and tries to convert to a.m4v but since this file exists it goes to a_1.m4v)

Can you post a link to one of her show that way I test it out with a show that it will be used on.

Again do not look for this addition any time soon as it might take a while to develop and implent.

On a side note I posted that I would probably make a release this weekend well do to the holiday there has not been enough new Podcast release for a though testings of the changes to the write BTV Properties so I may wait till middle of this week before I make the release public just want to make sure the changes did not break anything.

Re: [addon] BTV Podcatcher

After I read your reply I suddenly realized that I asked for something that I can't use. In fact, the video converter I use doesn't even have a line command mode so the request in a bit bogus. Having said that I'm going to look into finding a converter that has one and after I test it out, I'll definitely respond. Sorry for jumping the gun here. All of my holiday "food" is obviously affecting my brain.

Re: [addon] BTV Podcatcher

I use the windows of mplayer and it converts formats for me when I want it to. You could just run a batch file at a set time to convert all the .mov files for that day.

I am not plan on adding any web administration to BTV Podcatacher right now.

But you might want to look at installing VNC to be able to remote control your PC while on the road this way you can make any changes to your feeds while you are away. (I use RealVNC Professional which does cost some $$ but does have encrpted connections but you might be able to use TightVNC or UltraVNC which is free if you do not want to pay)

Then if you are on road you can use the viewer to to access you computer RealVNC has a exe file that you can run that does not require insatlling also RealVNC has a java web application if you can not run the EXE. If you are really in a bind and you are using IE then you can use WebVNC which uses activeX to access the server.

Also you can look for vnc viewers for most operating systems, they even have one for the jailbroken IPhones.

Re: [addon] BTV Podcatcher

I too use RealVNC (the free version) quite a lot, along with Hamachi (the basic, free version) to create the VPN connection. With this setup, all of my VNC (or Remote Desktop) traffic goes over the encrypted VPN connection. The performance is surpisingly good.

Re: [addon] BTV Podcatcher

When I've tried to run VNC on my BTV machine I had some odd issues with playback, I had to uninstall it to make them go away. So I stick with the built in RDP, it just seems to work, the only issue is you have to logon again when playing on the TV again. RDP seems to require a password when logging on. I have also tried the free version of Logmein.com's remote control, it works but is a little slow but does away with the VPN requirement.

Completely agree! Here is my thread hijack:

Anybody have any other awesome video podcasts for me to look at? Are there anymore sites like Revision3? I've been searching some, but I haven't found any other Revision3 like sites.

Thanks!
