[addon] What's Up Next

Author: jbartlett777

Short Description: Yahoo Widget for displaying upcoming recordings
Long Description: A Yahoo (Konfabulator) widget that will display your upcoming recordings. Great for people with a x15e case !

Version Number: 1.0
Status: Super Neat-O

Installation Instructions:
Save the widget file to your My Documents\My Widgets directory.
You can double-click on the file or click on the Widget icon on your task bar, select "Open Widget", and open the file.
On initial load, the preference screen will be displayed where you can specify the location of the SnapStream directory and defaults to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream.
If you installed BTV4 in the default directory, the value for the SnapStream path should be fine except maybe for the drive letter.
If the plugin can not find the file "Beyond TV\RemoteRecs\upcomingrecordings.xml" located in the path entered in the preferences, you will get a message stating so.
If the file is found, it will be parsed out and the show information displayed.
The preferences can be viewed at any time by right-clicking on the widget window and selecting Preferences.

Release Notes: This plugin was designed for BTV4. It may or may not work with BTV3.
License: Free
Requirements: Beyond TV4 and Yahoo Widget Engine 3.0+

"lick on the Widget icon"

I should proof-read more thoroughly!

Re: [addon] What's Up Next

I'm unfamiliar with this "Yahoo Widget" concept. Is there a thread somewhere that explains exactly how this works in conjunction of BTV (eg. where exactly this display is supposed to be)?

Brad.

I like that case but wonder how useable it is in the real world? What information can it dispaly to me from a couch? How distracting is it from the actual display? Is there some other scenario I am not thinking of where this might be advantageous?

It mostly comes in handy for people with dual-monitor displays. I have the x15e case (link for it above) and the built-in LCD display is perfect for Widgets.

If you have XP Pro installed on your DVR box, you can reference the path in the widget running on another computer as well.

Oh, it's not distracting in the slightest - as long as it's not over the actual show!

Re: [addon] What's Up Next

Okay, interesting. I installed on one of my network machines but it doesn't seem to like UNC paths. It claims to not find the file, even though the path is correct. My guess is it wants a drive letter? Perhaps a simple enhancement. :-)

Re: [addon] What's Up Next

I am not really sure what is going on but I have BTV v4.1 installed and the widget runs but complains about not finding the file upcomingrecordings.xml.

I have searched my machine high & low and have not found this file anywhere on my machine, and the BTV software is showing 6 upcoming recordings.

What is going on?

I didn't try a UNC with it, never even occured to me in fact. I'll check it out but I'd say ensure that the DVR box is not running XP Home (impossable to grant access permissions) or to make the directory available to everyone.

If you installed using default paths on drive C:, the upcomingrecordings.xml file should be located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Beyond TV\RemoteRecs

The widget preference should have up to the SnapStream directory - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream

D'oh!

I wondered about that momentarily but figured if it was available for 4.2, it was probably available prior.

Can you update the Requirements above to reflect BTV4.2?

Re: [addon] What's Up Next

The widget is a bit messed up with the latest version of the Yahoo engine. The BTV4 background is offset quite a bit. Any chance you can update it?

Thanks!
