Yes, AutoXvidInstall puts it into the Programs list, or it did on XP and earlier versions.
The initial Instal program, moves all executables into the AutoXvid install directory, then the Finish on the install, had selected to run AutoXvidInstall.exe. If you did not unselect this, then FINISH should run AutoXvidInstall which builds A "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Beyond TV\CustomPostProcessing.xml" for BYV, installs the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Beyond TV\Plugins\ssppcmd.dll" (required by BTV for Post Processing to work), and creates a default AutoXvid.ini in the AutoXvid Install directory. As well as creating a Programs List entry.

Re: [addon] AutoXvid (November 12 Update)

Hey everyone,
How long does it usually take everyone here to process one file through autogk. No through the entire autoxvid process, but through autogk. It seems to be taking me several hours to go through 1 - one hour show, about 4-6gb per show. Does the original size have anything to do with how long it takes to run through autogk?

Everything has something to do with how long it takes. Of course HD recording are larger in size and always take longer than SD recordings. Two oass encoding takes longer than single pass encoding.
[AutoXvid]
OutPutSize= FileSize xxx results in AutoGK doing two pass encoding
while:
OutPutSize= Quality xx% results in AutoGK doing single pass encoding

Using a filesize doesn't double the time, but it does increase it significantly

Note: and of course the hardware you have... dual core, quad core... etc.

Damn, of course I am using filesize='s lol. It is taking like 5 or more hours to do one file. I have a dual core 64 bit running windows 7 x64. Maybe i need to upgrade or something, lol.

There you go, using a slow processor like that, what can you expect? (Kidding) I don't even recall what my processor speed is. SLOW.

You are still measuring in hours. I strive to get finished before the next day's processing starts. It's all relative.

Hey,
If i build a new computer, i will sell you my old one for cheap. you will just have to take the hard drives out of yours and put it in the new one. I even have a decent case I can give you. What do you think?

I am 73 and I smoked and drank and caroused around when I was young. I'm retired now and this is just a hobby to occupy my mind. If I profited by it, or obtained something of value, it would change it from a hobby to something else. So I am not envious of others who have bigger and better machines. I am appreciative of your offer (and of other offers I have had) but I decline.
It is the ZEN of design that is my reward.

Re: [addon] AutoXvid (November 12 Update)

No I understand. I just want to help you out. I know you have an older system and can't help out many people because of the lack of hd, etc. Think about it this way, take me up on my offer, and you will have alot more to occupy your mind. Since it will give you the option to help more people.

Just a thought, otherwise it will go to waste and just sit in my closet

Just set up a new system you build and spread the recording you do between the two systems. That will effectively double you throughput.

Re: [addon] AutoXvid (November 12 Update)

I have a question for autoxvid users. I started having a problem encoding ABC's recorded HD shows a few weeks back (late Sept, early Oct.). I've read that ABC has changed the way they broadcast their shows, and MAYBE that is what is causing my problem. I'm not sure.

The problem is that after autogk encodes the shows the shows don't have audio. And Autogk isn't even converting the audio it should be leaving it the same as the source. I also notice that autogk will report that there was a large difference in the number of frames after the encoding.

Has anyone who records HD ABC shows and encodes them notice this problem or not had this problem?

Thanks.

Re: [addon] AutoXvid (November 12 Update)

I have had this problem with show on the CW, it never has audio after going through autogk. I have no idea why. Haven't noticed it on ABC yet, but I will look into.

I do not know a fix.

Re: [addon] AutoXvid (November 12 Update)

Lee,

It seems AutoGK is no longer "cutting the mustard" as they say. You may not want to add another encoder option but if you were willing, I think a program called handbrake would be a GREAT addition to autoxvid.

Here is a link to how to use it's CLI version of the software, but it has a GUI as well.
CLIGuide ? HandBrake

And here is the actual encoders website.
HandBrake

I've tested it on the ABC recordings that I can't get AutoGK to encode any more and it works great. As a matter of fact I can encode the HD cut MPG from VideoReDo (cut using autoxvid) in to an AVI that uses h.264 for video and AC3 for audio and have the episode data imported back in to that AVI and beyondtv play it perfectly! It doesn't get much better than that! Unless you can get autoxvid to have handbrake do the encoding automatically!

But it can also do xvid as well and about 4 or 5 container types (MKV, MP4, M4V, AVI, etc). But AVI seems to be the best option since the episode importer won't work with the other container types.

So can you take a look at Handbrake and see if that is something you think you could add support for?

Thanks!

If we're going to explore a different encoder, I'd certainly nominate MeGUI. I haven't used Handbrake in a year or so, but as I recall, MeGUI is considerably more diverse than Handbrake and has its own CLI as well.

MeWiki

From what I recall of Handbrake, MeGUI had much more diverse options to choose from when encoding and had much better encoding profile support. Also, the option to leave the original audio or encode w/NeroAAC in MeGUI was a big win over Handbrake's options. They may have changed that during the past year, if so, Handbrake could very well be a viable option. If not, MeGUI gets my vote.

Realistically though, for those not looking for x264 encoding, AutoGK is still pretty great. Love your work Lee, keep it up sir!
