AutoXvid has the AVI built in the root (a move to the proper dir only consists of the dir being updated, not moving the file itself) in order to move AutoGK's tmp files showing up in BTV's folders. Once BTV "sees" a new subdirectry in a recursed folder, ScheduledRun, or AutoGK can't delete it. The delete won't occur until BTV closes. Maybe I outsmarted myself. ScheduledRun deletes the subdir once AutoGK is finished, but I didn't anticipate that a agk_tmp subdir may already exist?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't encoding. I'm pretty familiar with AutoGK and used Mr.X's script for autogk. I've been clicking "start" in agk and everthing else seems to work out ok, ie auto_gk temp / creation and source deletion.

Re: [addon] AutoXvid

OK, I obviously need to find a way to insure ScheduledRun gets the job started. Maybe I hit start, sleep for 60 seconds check if agk_tmp subdir built, if not hit Start ,etc.... Potential for a enfinite loop, but off the top of my head, it may work. Maybe only try a certain number of times. I will look at it.

Re: [addon] AutoXvid (Aug 18 Update)

Lee,

Tried to isolate my problem a bit more by doing a manual drag/drop of a .mpg on the AutoXvid destop icon. It kicks off ok with AutoGK screen appearing, but the filename fields are all empty, and then an error window pops up (see attached screen capture in AutoXviderr1.jpg). If when you select Cancel another one pops up (see AutoXviderr2.jpg). At that point it's stuck with the AutoXvid.exe and EpisodeData.exe icons still active in the system tray and I had to use task manager to end their processes. I had a similar problem with the beta version of BTV2DVD recently and the author discovered he was missing a .net related dll file (check out the last few posts in that app's thread)...maybe something like that is going on here?

Here's my AutoXvid.log:

Does D:\Video\MP2\New Show-2005-08-17-0.xml still exist?
If so can you post or email me the New Show-2005-08-17-0.xml ?
MetaDataExtractor will crash if Not in a BTV folder but from my own install
program, it would appear that D:\Video\MP2 is a BTV folder. The other thing that will cause it to crash, is my edit must have built the
xml wrong. The critical areas are file paths anf filename. The edited xml should have them as D:\Video\MP2\New Show-2005-08-17-0.avi. It should also have the FileFormat as DivX-AVI.

Re: [addon] AutoXvid (Aug 18 Update)

ThickHead,
Ok I now know why MetaDataExtractor is crashing. The EpisodeData is really kept in (or appended to) the mpg, avi file itself. The way EpisodeData works, there are two functions, export episode data and import episode data. If EpisodeData is called with a file 'New Show.mpg' it checks for the existence of 'New Show.xml'.
If it doesn't exist, it exports episode data from the 'New Show.mpg' into an xml file named 'New Show.xml'. If it is called with 'New Show.mpg' and a file exists already named 'New Show.xml' it edits the file to change path\filename.type and fileformat to MPEG2 (for mpg) or Divx-AVI for AVI. It then tries to append ths data to the 'New Show.mpg' but crashes because the EOF is not there because the episode data has already been put there by BTV when it recorded the file. This is no problem because nothing was gained or lost. It is simply distracting us from your real problem. Why isn't AutoGK getting and keeping focus long enough for AutoXvid to fill in information. Do you by chance own Divx6? In other words, is Divx Converter running? By running I mean as an icon on your toolbar. When I look at your log, I see we exported episode data to the XML, then I see you drag/drop mpg twice more. BTV rejected the data (not really) EpisodeData has no way of knowing that, EpisodeData just sees the filesize did not change, so knows the import did not work. AutoXvid tries to activate AutoGK's window, then fills in fields. I ask about Divx Converter because I own Divx6 and I could not use Firefly remote to control BTV because Divx Converter kept stealing focus. I had to deactivate the converter. Divx has a tool (a program) to turn it on/off on their website.
Any way, I understand why we are seeing the Metadata crashes. It is not our problem though. It is something else.

Re: [addon] AutoXvid (Aug 18 Update)

Lee,
There's no .avi file just the original .mpg and the .xml file that comes from running Smartskip. I don't have Divx installed, just Xvid, and I have been succesfully using Mr. X's MP4sqz/AutoGK utility before this.

I do have an idea though, the file I'm using to test with is a short (15 min) BTV manual recording, but I don't know if manual recordings actually have any episode data in them?

As you can see in the log file, there were 3 attempts, the first one on 8/17/05 was right after the original recording, which was before I had ssppcmd.dll installed, and the next 2 on 8/18 were manual drag & drops. Maybe this recording is now hosed up somehow and I should do a new recording?

No, if you read the post above, I had already figured out why the crash is occurring. If you want to avoid the crash, just delete the 'New Show-forgotten the details.xml'. EpisodeData.exe 'sees' a 'New Show.xml' already exists, so it
thinks if we have already exported data, then we must want to import it back to BTV. So it runs MetaDataExtractor to IMPORT episode data to BTV so it attempts to append the data to the end of the file (in this case a mpg file) but
MetaDataExtractor expects the target to end with an EOF. It doesn't, BTV has already appended Episode Data to the ebd when it recorded the file. Obviouslly MetaDataExtractor was not written to handle this situation and crashs. I can
avoid the crash by just check for and delete the 'New Show.xml' before calling
EpisodeData or checking for and if it exists, don't call EpisodeData. The latter is probably the better solution. But MetaDataExtractor crash is not the problem. Later this afternoon, I will post you a new AutoXvid that will avoid the MetaDataExtractor crash. I have obligations I must attend to this morning. I don't know if that will affect the problem you are having though.
Lee Cole

I deceided I had time so here is a version of AutoXvid.exe that should avoid the
crashs you are having.

It should have displayed some info on instruction or variable. Can you tell me anything more about it?

Since you probably didn't write down the "variable used without being declared" message, post the AutoXvid.log that should have been created. The install should have created a log file that maybe will get me close to where we were in the code when you encountered a problem.

Here is an uninstall.exe. It will remove Registry entries. Remove Beyond TV CustomPostProccessing.xml which provides the link between BTV and AutoXvid.
Removes ReQue.lnk from Startup, removes Drag and Drop shortcuts. Removes
the Directory where AutoXvid was installed.
It will be included in next update of the AutoXvid package.

WARNING!!!! Only run this program from the Dir inwhich AutoXvid package was installed.

WOW, I don't know how that is possible. It deletes the shortcuts by name:
AutoXvid.lnk, SubTitles.lnk, and EpisodeData.lnk. Did you install AutoXvid package to the Desktop folder? It's final step is to delete the folder to which it has been installed. If that is the case, you may be able to recover the folder from the recycle bin. I am sorry, it just never occured to me that the package might be installed to the desktop itself.

Re: [addon] AutoXvid (Aug 18 Update)

It's okay, it's the price I pay for jumping the gun.

The program was not installed to my desktop folder... but the tricky thing is, it wasn't really installed at all right now. I'd uninstalled it a few days ago, so I wouldn't be tempted to play with it while in the middle of moving and living among boxes. I was going to reinstall it when you released your next version. But I did notice that some fo the things like the requeue program were still installed, so I thought I'd give this a try.

I do not recommend anyone who doesn't have the program completely installed use this uninstaller. But the requeer does seem to be gone.

I agree, the uninstall "assumes" it is running from the "AutoXvid installation folder". The first entry in this tread does contain a new version, 1.01.1 which does install the BTV DLL which is required to use CustomPostProcessing.xml to
get control when BTV finishes recording.
Again I am sorry, I hope you were able to recover your desktop from the recycle bin.
