[addon] New Web Admin

Not currently compatible with BTV 3.7x

Hey Guys,

20050529: Made sure read only users can't change security settings. This version *might* also fix issues with people using newer then BTV Link 3.5.1. Let me know!

--------

Edit: Here I've attached the latest version to make it easier to find

I've started to get my feet wet with the web admin and I've made the following changes:

Defaulted Library List to "By Series"

Removed many clicks to show squeeze a show (now it's right off the library page, instead of options -> show squeeze).

Redirected show squeeze saved page back to library list instead of displaying a success message. I do this since I do many show squeezes at once.

Added some highlighting in the log file to display in red when a file is deleted. Might add more stuff in here if I think about it.

What I want to do next is be able to delete many recording entries at once... I have about 15-20 record once jobs that I'd like to clean out.

Anyone else got any ideas that we can do to improve the web admin?

I can also distribute these mods to anyone who wants them

Edit: Just added in the library listing to show the episode title

Re: Web Admin Changes

Good start. I don't know about everyone else, but I have hundreds of movies that I have recorded over time (and continue to record) that don't fit into the series concept (especially the pre 3.5 recordings). New movies get a series of Movies, but that is probably too generic a category to be useful. For that reason (and others), I need to edit the show details all of the time. Right now, editing show details doesn't even work very well (I have a couple of outstanding beta bugs). So, it would be nice to be able to:
  • Select a group of shows from a list, and globally change the series on all of them. For example, Movies - Drama, Movies - Comedy, etc.
  • Get to the edit details page for a single show without going though a number of other screens (simular to how you cleaned up showsqueeze)
  • Select a group of shows from a list, and move them to another folder.
If you are looking for someone to help test your changes, just let me know.

Re: Web Admin Changes

Hey,

Those sound like good ideas. I was thinking the edit thing myself as well.

I'd like to get you my changes, but how do I do that? I'm not sure, do I send you the BTVWebAdmin.dll or something?

Thanks!

Just be aware that there are existing bugs in these processes. For example, if you move a show, it currently loses all of the details. From the log, I seem to remember that it is doing something out of order, but it has been a while since I tried this. Also, I recently tried to change the series on a couple of movies, and got very inconsistant results. For both of them, I was trying to add a series of Movies - Action. One worked completely, the other added the series of Movies - Action, but it also changed the title of the movie to Action - Series. The Very weird.

I'm hoping that one of the admins can give us a hint on how to facilitate sharing these changes for testing.

Yeah, I ran into a few of those bugs myself, and I'm sure I created some as well.

Just FYI, when you do get my changes, I'd close your eyes tight because I'm not sure if something might go wrong (disclaimer

Re: Web Admin Changes

One more that I would love to see in web admin. The status section should be expanded to include Todays scheduled recordings, and should show the current status of each tuner (inactive, watching live TV channel 9, Recording Simpsons on channel 3, etc) I don't know if all of that could fit into the current status box, or if it would make more sense as a separate page.

We should also take a look at some of the early complaints from the beta testing and just after the 3.5 release. I seem to remember a lot of people that made a decision to not upgrade based on their problems with web admin.

Re: Web Admin Changes

I use the WebAdmin almost exclusively -- even when I'm sitting in front of the PVR.

One thing that would be AWESOME would be to add a system status monitor to the WebAdmin -- certainly free space on the hard drive(s), but maybe also temperature, uptime, and anything else useful.

I've made several (!) suggestions for the WebAdmin. If people are interested in them, I can drag them out of the bug tracker and post them here...

Re: Web Admin Changes

From my discussions with SS, it looks like we just need to compile and zip up the aspx files.

This won't be good though if you've made your own changes though.

But yeah, take your suggestion and post them here. I will get at them when I can

Right now I'm working on moving multiple files at once, as I need to do this often.

Re: Web Admin Changes

Another thing that would be awesome (I cannot believe they left this out) would be to SORT by whatever heading you want... So, for example, I could click Library->All Shows and then click the header to sort the display by either DATE or SHOW NAME. This should go throughout the WebUI... Including upcoming recordings, etc.

I'd also like to see an icon for if the show is in WMV, MPEG, or some other format...

WebUI: Library-> (showname) should show the episode description.

Oh! And the ability to manage MULTIPLE logs -- edit, download, or delete them -- would be a great addition.

As would the ability to delete all SUCCESSFUL ShowSqueeze log entries in WebUI: ShowSqueeze at once -- a checkbox or something that checks if "ShowSqueezeStatus==Successful" and deletes 'em. It would, of course, skip those that are still running and any that had failed. Barring that, putting the DELETE LOG ITEM button on the front page would be nice (so you don't have to click OPTIONS to delete the ShowSqueeze log). This is just the LOG entry in WebUI: ShowSqueeze; not the actualy files.

I'll pull the rest of my wish-list out of the bug tracker and post it shortly.

Re: Web Admin Changes

Hey,

I added the episode title to the library, instead of just having the show name. It gets pretty conjested in there, and probably moreso if I added the description.

What do you think, would the title be enough?

Thanks,
Brad

Re: Web Admin Changes

I'm not in favor of having the episode description on the Library page. I think it would be, as you said, too cluttered. Unless you can do the episode description as a mouseover...

What I'd like is this... Say you're looking at your recording of The Simpsons...

You click Library then OPTIONS next to The Simpsons episode. On THAT page, I think the Episode Description should appear.
