beyondtv in San Francisco?

ok people, comcast finally shrunk my coax from 100 channels to 33. SO I have to connect a cable box to my computer now and I have to keep beyondtv on ch 3. So I wanna know if there are any users in SF who went through and have adapted to this situation. Can I pick your brain on how you adapted? This wouldnt be considered troubleshoot would it? Im just getting opinions on other's set ups in my lovely city

Re: beyondtv in San Francisco?

Get a USB-UIRT or an IR blaster. This will allow BTV to change the channels on the cable box.

I adapted by canceling Comcast, installing an antenna, getting an HDHomeRun, and built a HTPC with BeyondTV. Since you are in SF you should get great reception from Mt. Sutro and Mt. San Bruno transmitters.

Of course the only problem with this setup is you won't get many of the channels you are used to watching on Comcast. If getting an antenna is not an option and prefer to stay with Comcast, again get an HDHomeRun which can tune in natively all the clearQAM digital channels which are present on your Comcast coax.

I don't believe you are correct.

They are only eliminating analog channels but are sending all the extended basis channels, analog and HD in Clear QAM digital.

I don't use a STB on Comcast in SJ. I have the cable for clear QAM and I use OTA for backup HD

Try a TV with a QAM tuner to see if Comcast is doing the same thing in SF. Or if you have a QAM capable tuner in your PC try scanning for QAM before you compicate your life with STBs, etc.
