Does SnapStream recommend upgrading to Windows 7?
As the title asks.. Does SnapStream recommend upgrading to Windows 7? I know they say its supported, but is it a smart move when BTV is stable and works on XP? Also, I'm worried about driver support, especially with the HD-PVR. The only reason I'd want to upgrade is to take advantage of the new media center.

Re: Does SnapStream recommend upgrading to Windows 7?
I dont think they say anything about it other than it meets the minimum requirements if you run the 32 bit version.
Vista is still not fully supported and Windows 7 isn't either. Off the top of my head, there are 2 well known issues thus far: 1) They have issue with audio (same as Vista SP2 issue which is still unfixed) 2) No hardware accleration for playback of the H.264 Given that HD-PVR support is still iffy at best for any OS, I'd say stick with a working setup...

Good points. I think I will stick with XP for my BTV server.

Re: Does SnapStream recommend upgrading to Windows 7?
I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and re-installed the latest version of BeyondTV. I am recording clear QAM from my HDHomeRun. Everthing seems to be operation normally with one exception, when I move the BeyondTV window to my extended desktop (on a 50 inch Panisonic Plasma) there us no video. The window is fine in all other respects. The GUI works fine, just can't watch video once the window is on the extended desktop. Everything (live TV, recording, playback) is fine on my primary screen ( a 24 inch LCD).
This setup worked fine with XP Pro 32-bit. Just had to switch the sound from PC to Panisonic manually. |

Re: Does SnapStream recommend upgrading to Windows 7?
Rivet, I used to have something similar happen but it was related to only getting hardware acceleration on the primary monitor. You may want to make sure you're using overlay mode rather than 3d accelerated in beyondTV.

Re: Does SnapStream recommend upgrading to Windows 7?
There is a registry setting to allow you to play video on a secondary monitor...you have to reset it everytime you install/upgrade. Search the knowledge base for it
