Re: Windows 7 and Beyond TV Compatability

This thread confuses me, since I've been using BeyondTV on Windows 7 64-bit since the beta came out in January with absolutely 0 issues. Previously to that, I was using Vista 64-bit, also with 0 issues.

Not everyone is so lucky.

I couldn't even get Link to run on my Windows 7 beta system. (I never installed the RC), so I don't hold out much hope for using it on the RTM. I'll try it, though.

Also, Snapstream doesn't oficially support Vista or 64-bit yet. Considering the fact that XP is no longer even available, and 64-bit CPU's have been the norm for the last couple of years now, it's really time for Snapstream to officially support the Vista/Win7 platform and 64 bits.

If you strictly follow the official system requirements, you literally cannot buy a new PC today that Snapstream will officially support.

Craig, if I understand you correctly, you have the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 “non-MCE version” which comes with the Hauppauge branded remote and accompanying IR blaster.

This hardware (Hauppauge specific remote and IR blaster) was not designed to function with any version of Microsoft Media Center. Is the Hauppauge remote and IR blaster capable of controlling your DISH Network VIP122 STB, sure but that does not mean it will function with Microsoft Media Center (any version). You’ll need an official Microsoft Media Center remote (with the Microsoft Logo Green Button) and accompanying official Microsoft USB receiver / IR blaster for proper support.

Again this is just general information that is applicable to even the earliest versions of Microsoft Media Center.

Re: Windows 7 and Beyond TV Compatability

Thanks Octavean. It finally sunk in. I can be dense at times. I guess I got on a tangent because I was also adding my Hava Titanium Player interface to Windows 7 Media Center via a "Virtual" IR Blaster software emulator for the Media Center USB based IR Blaster. Do you know a source for the Media Center, USB based IR Blaster only? I do not need an MCE remote at this time. - Craig

Re: Windows 7 and Beyond TV Compatability

Note: I'm downloading Win7 as we speak. I need to locate 64 bit drivers for my UIRT and my WinTV HVR's. I'll post info about that when I get everything together.

Re: Windows 7 and Beyond TV Compatability

No problem mate and do take not that its perfectly understandable for people to expect that such hardware would work with Media Center. Its unfortunate that it doesn’t but I guess I understand why Microsoft did it. Requiring specific hardware helps to assure a specific quality level and functionality.

Sorry I don’t know of a place where you can buy just the USB receiver and IR Blaster. You can probably find the Microsoft Media Center remote, USB receiver and IR Blaster for about ~$30 or so then just e-bay only the remote.

Re: Windows 7 and Beyond TV Compatability

S/PDIF passthrough of Dolby Digital is not working for me with BeyondTV on Windows 7. I just get stereo audio out. I have Dolby Digital enabled in the Windows S/PDIF audio settings and the passthrough does work in Media Center. I haven't found any settings in BeyondTV that control passthrough.

JT - open the options menu during playback and change the audio to SPDIF. I believe you pull it up by pressing the letter o.

OMFG! You guys don't know all the crap i've gone through over the last month trying to get 5.1 to work. Here I was blaming it on my poor HD-PVR when it was me the whole time.

It just goes to show that when your really focused on troubleshooting, it is very easy to miss the easiest solutions. I even new about the SPDIF option, I just didn't think of it.

Thanx

Re: Windows 7 and Beyond TV Compatability

I just have to ask, what am I missing out on by staying with 32bit XP? My system rarely needs a reboot, I can record 6 HD channels at the same time, I can showsqueeze 20+ tv shows overnight, I can concurrently run BTV and Boxee and my CPU is barely utilized on playback because of my video card. I do understand the performance advantages & efficiencies, I run 64bit on my office computer...but, what would be the actual functionality gains by using it on my dedicated BTV and Link machines?

You're missing out on being able to use more than 4GB of memory. That's it.

Built in ASLR, and NX bit supported inherently provide greater security as well.

Re: Windows 7 and Beyond TV Compatability

NX is not exclusive to 64bit. And Microsoft has a weird way of supporting ASLR for compatibility purposes.

The Security Development Lifecycle : MS08-078 and the SDL

That doesn't give me a "greater security" feeling, but that's off topic.
