Question QAM Web Streaming?

I used to use BeyondTV to stream live tv, that was until my cable company decided to go all digital. I have since been looking into obtaining a card that does ClearQAM... My only issue here is that I don't know if BeyondTV will continue to stream LiveTV.

I know that there's a limitation that the capture card use software and not hardware encoders, but with these all digital formats, the data's already 'encoded' and it more than likely means the only way I will continue to recieve LiveTV is if I connect a cable box to my current Software-based card and shell out for an ir blaster etc.

Am I correct in assuming that the ATSC/ClearQAM cards cannot be used for LiveTV streaming over the web?

Re: QAM Web Streaming?

Do you mean with BTV Link? I use my HVR-2250 with ClearQAM (HD) and stream it to my BTV Link over a Wireless-G network with no issues whatsoever.

Re: QAM Web Streaming?

you are correct, you will not be able to stream Live TV via atsc/qam, the reason why it worked before is that your TV tuner was software based.

Re: QAM Web Streaming?

Will the BTV placeshifting introduced in 4.9 work on an in-progress recording? I know the old VLC based Community Web Admin placeshifting worked with in-progress recordings, although I've only done it with SD Mpeg recordings. I believe both these options do not require a software tuner card.

Re: QAM Web Streaming?

Does OP mean stream or simply playback on a remote PC? Why does anybody stream over a LAN? Just use Link or if you want to do it for free, use VLC to open the file that is currently recording. You can pause, FF, REW just like with Link. The downside is that the client machine has no control over what is being recorded or watched (unless you use VNC to start/stop/change channels).

Link is pretty cheap if you already have BTV and a remote pc(s).

Just for S&Gs I am currently watching Live SD TV with Link from my #1 HTPC and live TV with VLC from HTPC #2 on my craptop via wireless. Bandwidth is 1.5 MB/sec and both streams are playing without stutter or drops.

I can see streaming if you have an old, low powered pc and need to do the grunt work of transcoding or decoding cpu intensive files using your server's bigass cpu. But if he is just recording QAM almost any pc less than 5 yrs old can handle playback.
