How can I hold the creation date after ShowSqueeze?

This seems more of a Windows OS issue but I'll post it in the hopes someone can suggest a solution.

When I make a ShowSqueeze file of a recorded show (made prior to my installing BTV) the original date gets replaced by today's date. Both the Date Created as well as the Date Modified now show today's date.

I really need the original date to know when that show was aired. I'd hate to have to rename all these tons of files.

I tried both ways: 1) having BTV save the original file and 2) having it delete it. I assumed if it deleted it it would keep the Date Created for the new compressed one... but it does not.

Any suggestions.

Re: How can I hold the creation date after ShowSqueeze?

That can't be changed. However, BTV retains the original airdate within its metatag. If you go to the Webadmin and view your recorded shows. Edit one of your shows and you will see the information for the first airdate.

Re : How can I hold the creation date after ShowSqueeze?

You could try using BTV-Show Info or BTV-Negociator to reset the date to the original aired one, assuming it's not generic data...

Re: How can I hold the creation date after ShowSqueeze?

But is not the Date Created the date the file was first created? Why would that information get changed when the file is altered or modified?

That's what the Date Modified is for.

One for date made and the other for changes made to it.

Am I totally wrong on this?

Re: How can I hold the creation date after ShowSqueeze?

If you are referencing the Date Modified and Date Created in Windows Explorer, then you have no ability to change that. That's how Windows behaves once there has been a change made to the file.

This is why there is metatag information that BTV stores with the file and can be accessed using the apps that Fonceur said or through the Web Admin.

Well... not directly. There are free 3rd-party utils that will allow you to change those dates.

This is where I'm now at. I am trying to find a program that will allow me to copy and paste the Date Created into a new column that BTV will not alter when it makes the compressed version.

Then, I can either read this out from Explorer when I make my archive DVDs to get them in correct date order or maybe even reverse the copy and paste to put the original dates back in Date Created.

If anyone knows of such a program, please let me know.

Re: How can I hold the creation date after ShowSqueeze?

Yes, I'm actually trying some of these. Not the ideal solution but...

Any reason why .avi files will not allow you to alter the dates? I'm having some trouble getting these programs to change the dates in the ShowSqueeze .avi files. Other files... .txt files... work fine but not .avi's

The date on the original mpeg recording isn't changing, you are creating a brand new avi file, so of course the creation date won't match...

And I've already told you how to do it in a way that BTV will recognize it... You can add other metadata if you want, but BTV won't be using them...

Thanks. I tried BTV-Show Info as you suggested but I see no place to alter the Date Modified or Date Created. Tons of info columns but not the ones I need.

My needs are to use the compressed Divx files outside of BTV for archiving to DVD's and so on so the info has to be readable from within Windows Explorer.

I did find a program that will allow me to alter the Date Modified and I will use that until I find an easier, less time consuming method.

Thanks for the help on this.

BTW: I wonder if this is a simple enough thing for Snapstream to add to BTV. A check box that will allow you to hold the Date Created/Date Modified in the compressed file so you can easily tell when you recorded the show in Explorer.

Re: How can I hold the creation date after ShowSqueeze?

Doing a quick look I didn't see anything free to automate the job. But here's a cheapy program that looks very promising:

Somehow I'm doubting this would be anything they would implement since the existing metatag information has it, and they have a DVD burning feature.
