Any Interest in this BTV Addon?

I've written an addon for BTV called BTVPostPro and before I go into writing any help, etc I'm wondering if anyone could/would use it?

In a nutshell it takes the mpeg runs Comskip then VideoReDo and outputs a "clean" DVR-MS (or mpeg) and places the meta info from BTV into the DVR-MS.

How it handles each recording is based upon user defined settings: global, channel, and show. It's granual to the point that you can have a specific set of settings for a given show if you like. For example if you really needed a "custom" Comskip ini for Seinfeld or a prticular channel you could have it.

It's a windows app without the window while it's post-processing. All the settings are configured via a settings window (no editing files).

The only requirement that's not free is VideoReDo. The other apps it uses, such as Comskip, are of course free.

I know its a short description but does it sound like it would useful to anyone?

I happen to think it's great and I use it to post process everything... but I'm a tad biased :-)

I have videoredo already...so are you saying that you wrote an add-on that removes the commercials automatically and saves the new file for you?

i don't really know what Comskip is, I assume it is a commercial skipper

Re: Any Interest in this BTV Addon?

Sounds interesting...

You use comskip to detect the comercials, and VideoRedo to cut them?

Why is the DVR-MS container a preference? I thought people avoided that container because of the DRM impacts.

I think you should share it, either way. There are always people out there that will find it useful.

Cheers.

Re: Any Interest in this BTV Addon?

Yes. That's correct.

Comskip (www.comskip.org)is really a commercial identifying tool. Once it's identified the commercials VideoReDo can then remove them.

Comskip is actually very simple to use... the trick is putting all the pieces into a package to simplify the process.

The primary reason I wrote the addon was to simplify the procees of removing commercials, converting recordings to the DVRMS format and to import the meta data into those files. I playback everything through a media extender and the DVRMS format is by far the best for those devices.

BTVPostPro can be found here: http://sites.google.com/site/vbcodeprojects/btvpostpro/

Re: Any Interest in this BTV Addon?

There are already two solutions like this. CMCquisition uses batch files, VRD and Comskip...Razormoon has a solution that uses VRD.
Both can be found on this site. I feel that Cmcquisition's is a bit difficult and Razormoons does not allow you to ignore certain MPEGs from being processed, but maybe he will add that.

I agree that it does look confusing but it's really not as bad as it appears.

Update to BTV_REDOSKIP has been posted. I have taken Jakesty suggestion into consideration and have created v1060.

Re: Any Interest in this BTV Addon?

Looks like you're doing a fantastic job hioctane.
I would suggest though that you attempt to clean the time stamps on the given mpeg via VRD QSF before comskip. That way you don't have kungfu lyrics at the end of a 4 hour show.

Re: Any Interest in this BTV Addon?

Thanks. I really havent noticed that issue myself but even so I'm going to add the option of doing QSF before Comskip runs. Not sure why I havent seen it when it appears to be common.

You mentioned the VRD screen saver issue in a post about your app. I also had to add the ability to stop the screen saver and bring the monitor out of power save. It is beyond me why the VRD COM object behaves so goofy with this.

Hopefuly I'll have an updated version out shortly.

Re: Any Interest in this BTV Addon?

VRD's behavior during screensaver or lock is terrible. Shameful business that few apps behave in this manner. Maybe they'll correct that in a future release?

Probably not likely since I haven't seen it mentioned in VRD forums.

Well, good luck then.

BTVPostPro isnt written to use one or the other. Either Plus or TV Suite should both work. Personally I use TV Suite.

If anyone is interested a new version has been posted to: BTVPostPro ?(VB Code Projects)?

Re: Any Interest in this BTV Addon?

Help me understand how you're using this with extenders. Since you're pushing the output into DVR-MS, I'm assuming you use Vista Media Center and the VMC extenders for playback? Is that correct?
