feature sugestion

i have 2 btv systems in my house. 1 is a version 3 system and the other is a version 4 system. if possible i would like to see either btv link able to sync with both or allow link 3 & 4 be installed on one machine simultaneously. as it is i have to choose which one i want to make a connection to and install that version.

Re: feature sugestion

I'd support this for point releases like 4.8 and 4.9, but wouldn't support them spending time and money making BTV3 work with BTV4. 3 is OLD (I know, I started with BTV3.3) and 4 has so much more to offer.

Why not just upgrade both to BTV4?

simple that system cannot handle btv 4. i already tried before building
my btv4 system. i kept the old system in place as an alternate system but i still use it as my primary recording system since the pvr500 wouldn't work in my btv4 system.

btw: i would be satisfied if i could install both on 1 system but link 3 and 4 overwrites each other.

Ok. I went back and read the original thread.

I don't think you really have a right to be annoyed. BTV 3 is outdated, and there's no reason to expect SnapStream to spend money and time to support a deprecated product. It's not a good business decision for them.

Your best solution is to either put all your tuners in one box and link to that or use the web interface to manage recordings.

Why won't your PVR500 work in your BTV4 system? Does in mine.

Re: feature sugestion

Try sharing out the drive on your BTV3 server and mapping a drive on your btv4 server. also make sure to add your mapped drive in the webadmin on BTV4. You should then be able to use link 4 and see all your shows

well maybe your mb is compatible with the pvr500 - mine ain't won't boot when installed.

anyway since i will never get any assistance i will never post here again.

btw if 3.0 was to never be in the current link the install for btv4 link shouldn't overwrite btv3 link.

Why wouldn't you post here? We're all just sharing opinions. That's normal. Nobody abused you.

I do understand on the PVR500. I'd forgotten, but I have a Dell that wouldn't accept it either. Weird.

1)the thread is moot now since i am the only one asking and two are against. the chances of snapstream even caring is now nil.

2) you are right it would cost them too much money to redirect the btv4 link installer to another directory and register the btv4 files accordingly so btv3 link can be utilized on the same system.

3) as it was so delicately posted

so since the help i am looking for is not coming i see no reason to continue.

It's not that simple.

COM DLL's are registered by their type names, not by their location. In effect, a COM DLL can be anywhere on the system, and once it's registered, that's where the system looks for it.

Since BTV3 and BTV4 undoubtedly use the same namespace and class names, it's impossible to have both versions installed on the same machine. The only way to do it would be to pull BTV3 out of mothballs, rename every class and every namespace, then re-compile the entire project from scratch.

It's not exactly the world's most difficult project, but it's not trivial either.

And how does that benefit them, exactly? You bought v4, and you can use it - albeit on a newer computer. With all the real problems in this product right now, it just doesn't make sense to spend the man-hours on an old version of the program, one that you're not using legimitely anyway. Once you upgraded your v3 to v4, you're not supposed to keep using v3 on an old computer. V4 replaces v3. You still only have once license, not two.
