I have Hauppauge Wintv PVR usb2 with 45 button remote control and the USB-UIRT. From the WinTV 6 applications, I only have the drivers and IR loaded. I have BTV setup to use the UIRT and the silver 45 button RC. Do I have to continue running the IR.exe that came with Hauppauge? I would not think so but things quit working when i turn it off.

Also when I hit the green power button on the RC the viewscape exits. How do I get it to start again. The power button does not do it. It is probably a configuration.

I am still using the trial version of BTV, I will purchase later. Which remote is better, the Hauppauge of the firefly?

You need the ir app to use the Hauppauge remote. The UIRT won't do anything without another program to interpret for it.

As to Hauppauge vs. FireFly: I wouldn't spend money on a FF if you already have a working Hauppauge remote. Something like EventGhost or Girder can enable your missing start button.
