comcast atlanta clearQAM channels

Hi,

My TV Tuner Card Visiontek HD 650 PCIe does not find any channels (Not even one) if i run it through splitter. But if i connect directly from the wall it finds almost 42 channels. I understand there is a signal loss when using a splitter not all the channels as if I did not connect any cable. Is there any special splitter?

Also if I connect directly from the wall to my tuner, BTV finds 42 channels like is said. But the channels numbers does not match my high definition TV. I see the number 2 thru 42 but I am not able to watch any channels during the BTV setup wizard.

Any help is highly appreciated.

RT

I am using the same card as well as a USB version. I have a 4-way splitter on the cable from the wall just before entering the computer. I can see your confusion. I also had 42 channels found. Have you tried to map them? You will find that these channels are mostly the digital versions of your local channels, plus the HD versions of your local channels, the local access channels, C-SPAN, a couple of shopping channels and an assortment of religious programming. The numbers are not 2-42. The clear QAM channel numbers will not match those on your HD cable box, except the last 3 digits of a couple of the channels are the same as those on the cable box, but most are not. You will be able to watch them when you map the channels to your line-up. Choose "Comcast Atlanta-Digital" for the line-up and double click on the matching channel that is shown in the window. It sounds complicated but is REALLY simple to accomplish. You might have a couple that you can't identify such as an On Demand that you just happen to be getting at the time. I ignore these as there is no telling when you would get it again if ever. Be sure you have cable to both the digital and analog tuners. If you are getting no feed when the splitter is attached maybe you need a signal booster just before the splitter to give you enough signal to have something after the splitter.

Check the frequency range of your splitter, the ones you want should go up to 2Ghz...if it says 1100Mhz then its a regular splitter and not one you can use for digital cable.

No, 1100MHz (or even 1000MHz) is sufficient for digital cable. If a 1100MHz splitter isn't working well with digital cable, it's because it's a bad quality splitter (or weak input signal, or not installed properly), not because it's range is up to 1100MHz.

Over in Washington state, Comcast's digital signals are going through an amplifier without any problems at my place. It's the 1-to-4 bi-directional amplifier from Radio Shack. It has a 54 MHz to 1000 MHz range. Part number is 15-2506.
