Newbie questions

Did some searches and haven't found an answer yet, so I'll ask.

I'm looking into getting a HD Homerun or Hauppage HDPVR, if I use Beyond TV will I be able to put a recording on a USB drive and play on either a PS3 or XBOX360 in Hi-Def?

thanks,

rod

Re: Newbie questions

What you're looking to do might be a little technical, but certainly doable. 1. It would be best if your host OS was a XP Media Center or the Vista replacement and 2. the XBOX will automatically see the media center computer.
There are a few bumps in the road on this. The HDHR can be recorded via BTV and saved to a USB device, but having never tried accessing it via the XB360 I'm unsure. Some people have the recording saved to the local HD and run a post process to move it to a USB drive.
Another problem is that the interface you get with these devices is not intuitive on it's own. A free replacement called TVersity makes accessing the media files much easier to work with.
Sorry I don't have experience with the HDPVR, but if you can wait a little while longer better support for it will come. It is still very beta in many ways and what you're already asking to do is a huge task.
Hope that answers some of your questions, what you want to do could easily be too much for 90% of the people out there, and more work than it's worth.

Re: Newbie questions

Thanks, I guess what I'm trying to find out is what format does the BeyondTV save in or is it driven by the HDHomerun.

If it saves in wmvhd with 5.1 then I'm set. I'm trying to find a way to record off OTA here in Houston to a hard drive.

thanks

Re: Newbie questions

The files will be saved in .TP format. Here is a another threads where someone asked What is a .TP file?
