Using BTV as a PVR for OTA HDTV and playback via Apple TV

I'm new to BTV and it looks awesome. In my setup I have good OTA HD reception and a DVR-1600 capture card.
I don't want to watch TV on my PC but I would like to use it for recording programs for use with my iTunes Apple TV.
It would appear BTV can do this as it has iTune & Apple TV presets including H.264 encoding. Anyone using their Apple TV with BTV?

If you subscribe iTunes to the RSS feeds and then have the AppleTV sync with iTunes on that machine you should be able to do what you want.

Re: Using BTV as a PVR for OTA HDTV and playback via Apple TV

I have this type of setup (not HD yet). No problems, only issue is that you get duplication because you have to subscribe to the RSS feed in itunes and then it synchs with the AppleTV after. So, each show is duplicated once in Beyond TV and the other in Itunes. To bad you cannot subscribe directly to the feed on AppleTV to the computer. Only other minor gripe is that you cannot set the Artwork for the feed.

Unless someone knows how let me know.

Re: Using BTV as a PVR for OTA HDTV and playback via Apple TV

I'm new to iTunes and Beyond TV, I've not used the RSS feeds option yet. Why would you have to subscribe if it syncs after?

I did let it transcribe a HD feed (Dr Who) to H.264 and although it took about 4hrs total to compress and chapter index the 1hr show (Pentium 4 3GHz hyperthreading 1G RAM) it looks terrific on the Apple TV (With the Apple TV preset of course)

I had to manually add it to iTunes though...

Re: Using BTV as a PVR for OTA HDTV and playback via Apple TV

BTV4 works ok as an almost-sorta-extender. I have BTV convert to h.264 for my iphone, and showsqueeze for my appleTV. My phone loads the shows through the RSS feed (podcast), but I have to load in the separate showsqueeze directory every night into itunes to get them to show up on my appleTV. The problems:

1) you now have three versions in your BTV interface
2) you now have two versions in your appletv
3) you have to load the AppleTV version by hand
4) nothing shows up on your ipod
5) you have to pay all those legal bills from the divorce that results because your wife can't stand it (or is that just me?)

Maintenance becomes an issue.

Hopefully the integration will improve over time. I'm going to see if iPodify is a better solution (most likely worse).

I load them into itunes via podcasts by using the URL http://localhost:8129/RSSFeed.aspx?ParentGUID=All . As long as BTV is running itunes will get the recording when they are converted to h.264.
