Anyone use MCE remote with HIP in XP?

Right now I use a Firefly remote on my Link box, and I'm not putting it into standby because I don't have a good way to wake it up.

I was searching around on MCE keyboards and remotes and found some information on HIP, which is like Girder only free and with a more limited device list. Another driver, Microsoft KB888795, may also be needed (also found in Update Rollup 2 for MCE2005). It looks like with this combo or just the HIP package you can then use an MCE IR device with any program. Some of them have IR emitters as well apparently.

But the key here is that the MCE IR receiver can wake a system from standby, so this could be a good replacement for the Firefly with wakeup capability.

Anyone ever try this setup?

Thanks,
Z

I'm using this setup right now (instructions HERE), but I don't put my system to sleep, so haven't tried that functionality yet.

Why do you need HIP? The MCE remote works fine with BTV. You just don't tell it you have anything more than a keyboard. The remote, to BTV, looks like a keyboard. Works fine.

dmk11, thanks for the link. I guess I missed that thread when I searched for this.

tscales, that is interesting, thanks. I'll be getting the stuff next week and will experiment with it both ways.

Thanks,

The original reason why I used it is because I was running MCE and the windows start button always started MCE.
But even when I went to XP Pro, I still use HIP because I can reprogram the keys to what I wanted. For example, the "i" actually gives info on the show description instead of the options menu.
And it also allows me to start different programs on my HTPC and control that.
