Haali renderer with Beyond TV 4.8.1? possible?

Hi,

I would like to use Haali renderer in Beyond TV 4.8.1 instead of Overlay or VMR9. Is this possible?

thanks,
Osho

PS: The reason why I want to do this is this: With the latest Nvidia graphics cards, both Overlay and VMR9 causes black to be dark gray and whites to be bright gray. This makes the picture look totally washed. Haali renderer fixes this problem.

I highly doubt that this would be possible without a significant change in their dev plans. Adding in renderer support isn't as easy as say adding in decoder support. Speaking of decoders, have you tried using different decoders. I'm using the latest nvidia cards, and using the nvidia decoder...picture perfect...even for shows that are traditional dark like Buffy.

Yes, I have tried using multiple decoders with both Overlay and VMR9 renderers. All exhibit this problem.

Since you have nvidia card, can you please try to play the nvidia_test.avi file posted in the first post at

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...&st=0&p=378252

with windows media player and see if you get a washed out picture of clean black picture (screenshots of both are also there in the same thread)?

I did not realize that BeyondTV's picture was actually washed until I opened the recorded files in VLC (with certain settings) and noticed how much real that was.

thanks,
Osho

Which decoders have you tried? Using the nvidia decoder will pull up the decoder settings icon in the systray when you are play a video using it. From there, you can further the video quality.

Can I use nvidia decoder in Beyond TV? I only have 3 choices: Snapstream Basic Video decoder, Snapstream Video decoder, Intervideo NonCSS video decoder.

How can I use nvidia decoder in Beyond TV?

Yes, using another renderer is possible, and I used to hotwire the Purevideo several times (I found it had to be done after an upgrade to a major BTV version).

Basically, it involves adding an entry in the Settings.XML. I searched on the site here and wasn't able to find the exact syntax but it's here. Perhaps others can help.

Are we sure we are all talking apples to apples? Purevideo = decoder
You can add more decoders to BTV through the settings.xml file. Or if the codec is correctly registered in Windows, it should be an option in the decoder menu. Renderer is what an application needs to render a video window. Decoder is what is needed to play a video type.

For example, I have the Nero DVD decoder as an option since I have the full Nero suite installed. Same with others. I got the Nvidia option to show since I installed the purevideo package. If I remember, someone on the forum did post how to manually add it to the settings.xml. I'll see if I can find the post and put it to thread.

Yes, I don't want or need to change my decoder. I would like to change the renderer. I would like to use Haali renderer instead of Overlay or VMR9 (3D). I want to do this to circumvent a bug in Nvidia driver which causes blacks to show as dark grey in Overlay or VMR9. But, Haali renderer works fine.
