BeyondTV to record from 4 inputs upon startup, or as easily with as fewest steps?

-The big problem with multi-channel security dvr software, they record in a proprietary codec file format onto the harddrive (usually .DAT), and without re-encoding or avi exporting, they cannot be readily used for post production editing. BeyondTV creates friendly mpeg2 files that Sony Vegas likes.

-I'll want to purchase a pair of WinTV-500MCE (with the necessary cables), to give me 4 inputs.

-Is there a way to get BeyondTV to instantly record all 4 inputs upon startup, or as easily with as few steps as possible? It looks like I need to program a manual recording for each, and verify it has started. Ideally I'd like to have the computer just power on, knowing that on boot, it'll just start and keep recording and won't stop until I turn it off. I've turned BeyondTV into a black box security dvr recorder.

-I know I can use other capture software (ie. ChrisTV) but I really like the BeyondTV interface and it's ability to browse thru recordings in a breeze. I know BeyondTV isn't multi-capture dvr software, but looks like the best so far.

Just create a 24 hours daily job on each tuner (or what ever is more convenient), they will start recording as soon as BTV is automatically loaded on restart...

Re: BeyondTV to record from 4 inputs upon startup, or as easily with as fewest steps?

I was able to get the BeyondTV to launch on startup (basically just turn on the pc and let it boot itself), and does REC immediately after, using daily program per your instructions. I programmed a daily recording at 12:00AM that would record for 23:45 ... I could not get it to record for 24 hours long, only 23h45m, giving it a 15min sleeping period. How do I solve that

Recording one 24 HR block a day is not the best way to go, as the file size for something like that would be huge. If I were to do what you are asking for I would record 24 separate one hour blocks, then just set it to record everyday. You now also have a nice small file size.

I would not recommend BTV for this task.

What you want is ZoneMinder it does all you need and more like live streaming etc. ZoneMinder is a FREE video survaleance package.

It will record always, or only when it senses motion in customizable zones, hence the name.

Here are some sample screen shots:
