FiOS Beyond TV

I have searched the threads here but do not see much on how to get beyond tv configured with FiOS. I went through the wizard setup and saw a FiOS verison listed, but was not able to get it to work. I also have the Firefly IR and saw that you had to remove the plastic up front to get that to work???

Anyone ave any luck and getting Beyond TV to work with FiOS and if so how?

Thanks!

Owen

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

I'm having a similar problem. FIOS Worked fine with BTV until Verizon switched over to all digital. I got their External Cable Box (DCT 700) and connected it to the tuner card and have purchased the USBUIRT to be able to change channels from the keyboard. I reconfigured BTV to work with the cable box and the IRT. I have had no luck getting this to output any video or audio signals.

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

Got it working today finally.

I have the DCT 700 STB. I had to connect the incoming coax to the STB. The STB only has outputs for audio and Composite video. I connected those to my ATI TV card.

In the BTV setup wizard, I had to make sure that I had chosen the Verizon Digital lineup, I also had to change the time between transitions from 100 to 200 milliseconds.

Finally, since this was a new STB I called Verizon and had them reboot my main STB remotely.

I think the key for me was the reboot of the STB and Router. Once this was done it seemed to know there was another STB in the system.

I am not using the FireFly as my computer is remotely located. Instead I setup the USBUIRT so I can change channels from the keyboard.

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

I can see the FiOS on my PC meaning I can view the channel it is currently on. DOes this mean that there is no channel line up where you can pre-program smething to record?

OK...I see a channel line up but it is missing a bunch of channels. I guess for having Beyond TV switching channels I need the USB-UAIRT device. WOW! They are not exactly cheap!

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

if you intend to use a STB, you have to have some type of IR blaster to control it. Even though it appears to be steep cost, the USB-UIRT is well worth the money. It can control up to 4 STBs as far as I know.

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

Actually my Hauppauge pvr 350 came with an IR blaster. Haven't figured out how to set it up yet. Meaning I went through the BTV wizard and it was not listed so I tried one of the options listed but did not work.

I can only see under Verizon FiOS Annearundel/Baltimore around 40 channels. Under Annearundel/Baltimore another option I see more channels but it is missing a whole bunch of channels. It basically goes from I think channel 70 to channel 400 skipping everything in between.

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

Okay, finally you posted what tuner you had...that should help this along.

So when you setup BTV, you get the follow checks (from memory so I'm not sure if that is the order).

Remote options (IR in)
Hardware Tuner setup
Channel lineup setup
If STB, then IR blaster setup
Tuner check with lineup

I'm pretty sure that the PVR-350 does not have an IR blaster...just IR receiver for the remote if that. I could be wrong. If you do have the firefly, then that is still only IR in...not out.

If your expectations is to have channel 99-400 on BTV, you have to connect the output (coaxial or analog AV) from the STB to your tv tuner. During the setup, the tv tuner will be locked to one channel and BTV using an IR blaster will control the STB to physically change the channels.

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

Thanks for the info! I believe you are correct in that it is not a blaster. It looks like I will not be ble to get the FiOS line up...or the total line up..eventhough I have the coaxial going from the STB to the Tuner card. I think I am stuck with looking up tv guide and manually switching the channel.

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

just because you are outputting coaxial from the STB, doesn't mean that the tuner can decode all the channels from that input. Otherwise people would only buy one STB and split the connection from the output. Even though the cost of the USB-UIRT seems steep, keep in mind that it can control up to 4 different STBs.

So you are saying I need 2 STBs to get all of the FiOS channels?

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

No, to complete your setup...you just need the USB-UIRT. However, if you opt to add more tuners and STBs to your system...you can use just one USB-UIRT.

Now I am confused! If I can not get the complete line-up of FiOS' channels at this point...how will adding the USB-UIRT complete my setup? I thought the function of the USB-UIRT was to allow BTV to change the channel on the STB???

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

Maybe I'm missing what you meant. Are you saying that the guide from snapstream.net doesn't match what your FIOS guide shows?

Re: FiOS Beyond TV

For me to get the complete FIOS lineup, I had to delete the lineup I had, which was analog, and make sure I chose the specific Digital lineup for FIOS. You may find in the advance settings for Beyond TV, some of the channels you want to see are set to hidden.
