THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!
I cannot say that enough for your software. It's freed up so much time in my life. The whole "set it and forget it" with scheduled programming? BRILLIANT! My friends come over see how simple the interface is and how smooth the system is all around. They always ask.."So what's the monthly?" I have this cheshire cat smile and say, "none..it's free". I told them the investment cost and how it's so much better than TiVo, that I've raised a few eyebrows and requests.."so can you set this up at my place?" ahhaha Again, the investment in an MCE dual tuner card, the software, and a few spare HD's laying around, has more than paid for itself. ::: bows to the great Snapstream gods ::: |

Re: Better than sliced bread? YES!
It's like crack. Then you start to wonder about HD content and tuners. Then you learn about QAM. Your head explodes, but your friends will still envy you.

Re: Better than sliced bread? YES!
Loony2nz, welcome aboard. I think you will enjoy the product. I've been using it for almost a year. mayhem70 was right about it being addictive. I started out slow. All I used to record on the VCR was American Idol. Never missed an episode, then the VCR started eating tapes. Switched to BTV and still only recorded American Idol. Jeez, it was soooo easy. Then I tried Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, etc., the light stuff, just trying to get my feet wet. Well, then it happened, I was hooked. Started recording the heavy stuff, Law & Order, Dexter, The Universe, Nova. Now I even take DVD's and put them into BTV. Music videos, too! The Firefly remote is flawless. Another tuner, another hard drive, a HDHomeRun. SD was ok but now, Clear QAM High Def. Yikes, Ryan Seacrest is getting some lines around his eyes, and Simon Cowell really does have bad hair. Got a product called VideoRedo. I flag the commercials and copy every show. No more commercials. No skipping on the remote. Makes the file sizes much smaller, too. I wouldn't dare put the TV on cable anymore. I'd get shot. All I ever hear now, is "Be sure to set up that series to record.", and "What is the lineup for tonite? Series, shows or a movie? Who's doin' the popcorn?" Yeah, well, I'm not the only one addicted in this house. BTV ROCKS!

Re: Better than sliced bread? YES!
I still have an itch to add a 3rd HDHomerun, just so I can space out the shows a little more and not worry about back-to-back recordings on the same tuner.

Re: Better than sliced bread? YES!
this is a great post..it's so easy to be critical and want more from a product when we've been using it for years, and then someone with a fresh perspective comes along and as bob seger said when asked how he has written music for 40+ years and stayed enspired said.."i go in the studio, sit down at a piano, start writing a song and i get the wonder back in my eyes"..it does remind me how when i tell people how i record shows onto my computer hd and have multiple channels recording at once, how it just boggles their minds (ok, sometimes their eyes glaze over pretty good, too
)

Re: Better than sliced bread? YES!
I was in a training class a couple of months ago and a fellow student was a gentlemen who worked at DirectTV. He couldn't understand how I was able to build my own PVR out of a PC and that there was off-the-shelf software available to the home user to allow this. I guess he gets a "free" DVR from DirectTV and has tunnel-vision on how it works.

Re: Better than sliced bread? YES!
Wow...great responses. This thread or parts of this thread should be part of their marketing campaign hahaha
I haven't dove into HD yet. Still waiting for a decently priced HDTV (either plasma or LCD). But, when I do, I might need some help from you guys on how to upgrade from SDTV to HDTV in terms of hardware. Great to see an active community!! --Chris-- |

Re: Better than sliced bread? YES!
Loony2nz ---
It sounds so good. I was recording 4 shows at the same time last night. Whole system hung up 20 minutes before the fist show ended - 8:41:20. Why? It appears my wife had watched too many recorded shows since the last rebooting of the system. It is easy to identify where the errors are. It is easy to reproduce them on any computer - even those from people who claim to have no problems.

Re: Better than sliced bread? YES!
Loony2nz, you haven't tried HD yet??? OMG! If you want to "blow a gasket" or "acheive nirvana" or, well, you get the idea.... The people on these forums are terrific. They will answer any questions/concerns you have. BTW, I have set up a HDHomeRun system and it does take some patience, didn't get it working the first time and read some of the threads on the forums and bingo! "Holy crap, Batman!"
