setup on dialup issues

I'm doing a test run of pc tv dvr and a buddy suggested beyond tv and beyond tv link. He has broadband internet, sadly I don't. Was able to download the trial versions of software at work (on broadband) however the setup downloads have been a challenge to say the least. Brought .net 1.0 home and realized .net 2.0 was what the first 20+ meg download wanted. Finally overcame the initial btv setup after hours of dialup ups and downs. However now I can't get the setup wizard to hookup for guide info. I have opened my dialup internet connections but the wizard refuses to accept that there is an internet connection open. So no guide info comes down.
That is the most immediate thing I'd like to fix. However, as a broadband isn't and option where I live (satellite to expensive right now and only choice) is there some list of files a user can download at a good internet connection and slip stream into place with out trying to DL over dialup connection? (When I say DL up connection, I mean SLOW dialup connection. Not one like you get in town.)
Anyway, at the moment I'd like to really get the setup wizard to see my peoplepc modem connection to get the guide info down. Any thoughts?

Re: setup on dialup issues

I have no experience with it, but you can use this XMLTV importer to import guide data into BTV that you download elsewhere.
[plugin] XMLTV Importer

The downside is downloading XMLTV listings can be a little geeky, and you may need to subscribe to a separate guide data service to get the data. Schedules Direct is $20/year, and has a good list of software to download XMLTV data. There are some free listings "scrapers" available, but they will likely be unreliable.
