Apple TV a good BTV extender?

I am curious, has anybody tried using Apple TV as a BTV extender? I know the beta 4.8.1 supports this.

Is it worth the cost?

Where in the release notes does it say it supports Apple TV?

I don't think that statement was correct.

Re: Apple TV a good BTV extender?

That is a long way from a BTV Extender though. You can play files through it but not a true Extender such as MCE Extenders.

Thanks
Mike

Re: Apple TV a good BTV extender?

Right, unlike the X360 being an extender for Microsoft's Media Center, there is no official extender for SnapStream and/or BTV as of yet... Also, I'd like to think that with the H.264 addon for BTV, you can easily use your X360, PS3, iPod, Zune, Apple TV, or PSP a TiVo of sorts, if you so desire, just so long as it's encoded properly to do so. Keep in mind that you can only use recorded television shows for doing this.

Re: Apple TV a good BTV extender?

I'm using a Mac Mini as a front end to my BeyondTV, and it works great. The only real catch is that you have to record everything into H.264 using the optional ($) plugin, and then mount that drive onto the Mini.

I can't think of any reason this wouldn't work for the AppleTV with a little bit of hacking.

I set up my TV with a Logitech remote - two simple buttons to switch between TV and the Mini. My wife loves it.

Re: Apple TV a good BTV extender?

iTunes Integration has built in Apple TV support, so you could just set up the RSS feed to go directly to the Apple TV
