H.264 ShowSqueeze and Sony PSP/PS3...

I know that the H.264 addon is built for Apple's Apple TV and iPod, and all that stuff. However, would this addon also work for Sony's products as well? I have a PSP and a PS3 that seem to use MPEG-4, and H.264 as well, but would Sony use a different flavour of these formats? I'm sort of curious. Especially when it comes to high-def recordings, which the PS3 in particular can take advantage of, I guess that the PS3 can also use MPEG-2, but the encoding may seem to be different for HDTV recordings. If someone could break these down for me as far as what the Sony products can use, as opposed to Apple's equipment...that would be great. Thanks.

H.264 is a standard. If it's a different "flavor" than it's not "standard". If you go in and edit the H.264/MPEG-4 qualities (or create a new one) you will see there's an AVC profile in there for PSP. Just make sure to set the quality for the appropriate bitrate settings for a PSP (and save it as a NEW quality with a new name).

Re: H.264 ShowSqueeze and Sony PSP/PS3...

...and would PS3 conversions be able to keep the high-definition quality from BTV? After all, for a console that takes advantage of 720p/1080i/1080p quality media, it sounds like it should accept BTV recordings through TVersity or anything like that... Unless Snapstream has something to beam TV recordings through a network into the PS3.

I believe when Sony added DLNA support to the PS3 it can receive video through Windows Media Player. That is how I get shows onto my PS3.

Re: H.264 ShowSqueeze and Sony PSP/PS3...

Ahh, something else I've noticed... Apparently HDTV recordings become corrupted on the PS3. Seems like it may only accept SD recordings. I'm disappointed in that, since the PS3 can accept movie trailer MP4s from PSN and QuickTime in 1080p... Why not BTV HD recordings?

Sony is very strict on how the format has to be in order to play on the ps3/psp, we currently do not support the devices at this time. As an alternative, you can ShowSqueeze them to divx and I believe they will play on the PS3

Re: H.264 ShowSqueeze and Sony PSP/PS3...

I also found out that PS3 now does WMV support with their latest firmware update, which is nice. Whether it can do WMV HD, that's another thing. I saw that ShowSqueeze does do WMV, but whether it'll keep the show in HD format, I dunno.

Re: H.264 ShowSqueeze and Sony PSP/PS3...

If you can figure out how to make it work for the PSP then I would purchase the H264 upgrade now . I edited a profile to make it look as close as possible to a PSP video 9 profile, but it wouldn't play on the PSP.

To make PSP files from an ATSC recording, I use BTV to make 480X272 Divx files and then convert them using PSP video 9. 480X272 is a native resolution for a PSP. By making 480X272 Divx files first, PSPV9 doesn't have to resize. Resizing twice is slow and adds unnecessary crunchiness. It's ugly enough encoding it twice.

480X272 divx at 1500 kbps is a pretty good setting for squeezed ATSC shows too.

Another thing I would like to see is a profile to convert to DVD compliant MPEG2.

Re: H.264 ShowSqueeze and Sony PSP/PS3...

Any update on this? The last post on the subject was more than a year ago. Have any of the more recent builds of BTV/h.264 plugin and/or PSP firmwares made the Showsqueeze more compatible?
