Burning HD to DVD

Is there any way to burn HD content you have recorded with BTV to DVD for later playback in the same resolution (720P in 720P, 1080i in 1080i and so on)? If not how can you burn BTV files onto DVD and have BTV find them on the DVD player and play them back? No problem burning them to DVD but I can't seem to get BTV to find the DVD player to play them back.

Thanks

Re : Burning HD to DVD

First of all, the DVD spec only goes up to 480i, so you can't make a true DVD with those 720p or 1080i files... Then again, BTV can't playback true DVD's in the first place, so...

What you could do is convert those files to divx or h.264 (with the proper profile) and burn a data DVD. Then have one your BTV folder be your DVD drive...

Re: Burning HD to DVD

You can use Nero (or any other third party CD/DVD Burning Software) to make a "Data DVD" that you can put any file type on.

Note that a disk burned in "Data DVD Mode" will not work on a Set-Top DVD Player*, but should work on any computer that has the proper codecs that are required to playback the file types you burn.

*There are exceptions to this. You see, there are some DVD-Players (and possibly some HD-DVD and BlueRay ones) that will directly play Data DVDs. You'll have to check their specs out individually, as what they support vairies widly.
By the way, a good place to start learning about Set Top Boxes that play Data DVDs is www.videohelp.com . They have a nice database of players you can search too.
