Recording Both NTSC and ATSC at the same time

This is more of thinking ahead then an actual problem, but I just realized that my ATI Theater 600 card will not dual tune/record a digital broadcast and an analog cable station at the same time.

I have two link machines to a BTV server. One HD and one SD link machine, I havent had need to watch on both or make 2 recordings at the same time, but I can see it happening at some point. Does anyone know of a card that can do that? The HVR 1600 is listed as dual tuner, but it doesnt say you can use both at the same time.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

You can with the HVR1600. The newer ATI cards can too, I believe.

Re: Recording Both NTSC and ATSC at the same time

I believe you have the older 600 series, which technically is a ATSC card w/ a software encoder for NTSC... your card can only record from one or the other.

The HVR-1600 is a true dual tuner, that you can record from both, the new ATI HD 5xx/6xx series cards are also true dual tuners, so they are capable of it also.

Re: Recording Both NTSC and ATSC at the same time

If you're talking a 650, it ALWAYS had a hardware encoder for SD. It just wasn't a dual tuner.

Re: Recording Both NTSC and ATSC at the same time

thanks for the responses, I believe tscales is correct the the 600 I have is a hardware encoder but not a dual output. My CPU is a pentium D 2.8ghz and it never gets above 10% ever when I am just watching tv. You did answer my question though, the HVR-1600 and probably a newer ATI HD card will be dual tuner (1x analog and 1x digital)
I will add that I bought my ATI theater 600 card as return at best buy for $50, so Im sure its not the most advanced tuner out there.

thanks again

Re: Recording Both NTSC and ATSC at the same time

It's a pretty darn good tuner. Of all my OTA tuners, the results from the ATI are the best. It has the most sensitive HD tuner too.
