DirecTV D12 Receiver

Trying to install this to my computer. I used to just run the coaxial cable for cable tv from the wall into my tuner card and it worked fine. Now I'm trying to hook up DirecTV with a D12 box and having a hard time.

It sounds like I need to run a serial cable from the back of the D12 box into my computer. Beyond that, I'm stuck.

Is there a way to set the thing up without the serial cable.. Like if I wanted to just change channels on the receiver using my DirecTV remote by pointing it at the receiver and not the computer? I just want to make sure I can get it to work before I drop the money on the cables.

Anyone who has a D12 working I would appreciate your help!

Anthony
