Harmony 550 to wake from Standby S3

I am trying to put together the info from many (helpful) posts to do this:

Use a Harmony 550 to wake the PC from Standby S3 (and also be able to start the BTV Viewscape).

I am using BTV with XP Home and Firefly Mini now. Standby S3 is working (sleeps and wakes to record on its own).

Now I want to switch to the Harmony 550. IR receivers I have to choose from are: Firefly Mini, Hauppage 45 button, and MCE remote. The MCE remote (from ebay) looks like version 2 model 1039, but without the TV button and without the 4 colored buttons. It does not say Microsoft on it, but does come up as eHome during installation. Windows can not find a driver for it.

Here is what I think I understand: (right or wrong?)
Firefly Mini will not wake from Standby S3.
Hauppauge 45 button remote will not wake from Standby S3.
MCE remote will wake from Standby S3.

Is that correct? Is the MCE remote the only one of the three that will wake from Standby?

If so, how can I find a driver for it?

I saw the post by John Sparks, "HOW TO: Using MCE Remote and/or Harmony 880 to control BTV".
HOW TO: Using MCE Remote and/or Harmony 880 to control BTV

Differnces I see and am trying to sort out how they affect my situation are:
John is using:
Windows MCE ( I have XP Home)
Harmony 880 (I have 550)
he does not mention Standby (my biggest priority)

Does anyone know another way to get the MCE remote receiver working with XP Home SP2B? I thought Windows would automatically find the driver. It did not (I did allow the install to use the internet to look for the driver), so the installation failed.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Re: Harmony 550 to wake from Standby S3

I have no experience with waking outside of the mouse/keyboard, but this may help:

Re: Harmony 550 to wake from Standby S3

OK, I found the driver files. irbus.inf and irbus.sys
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17785
Scroll to post 9.

I can get these from my other PC with XP Pro.

Before I learn the hard way and maybe make a mess, does anybody know if this will work?

1. Put these drivers (from XP Pro) into XP Home
.......copy irbus.inf to c:\windows\inf
.......copy irbus.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers
2. Get the MCE remote working (XP Home SP2B and Beyond TV 4.71)
3. Test the MCE remote for waking PC from Standby S3
4. Try to get the Harmony 550 to emulate the MCE remote

Step 4 will probably take a while. Yes?

How do I get the Harmony to start the BTV Viewscape? Run a batch file?

I am writing the steps and file names, etc to hopefully help others when they find this post.

Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Re: Harmony 550 to wake from Standby S3

Thanks for the reply, Fickey.
Looks interesting... maybe after I get through these next few steps.
Looks like spending more $ and doing some wiring.

I am hoping to leave mine on all the time, but let it sleep (standby S3) after a few minutes of no activity. So far it has woke up to record and then back to sleep, every time (no problems) for about 10 days.

I have the Harmony 550, so I need to get it working. Hopefully it will wake the PC from Standby.
