BTV Link license annoyance

I frequently use my laptop to stream video using BTV Link. Sometimes (like right now, for instance), I bring my laptop from one room to another. Some rooms have wired LAN ports, some don't.

Usually what I do is just disconnect the sleeping laptop from the power and LAN cables and take it to the kitchen to what something while I make dinner. Unfortunately, I don't usually realize that BTV Link was loaded when the computer went to sleep. When I load it up when using the wireless network connection, since its a new MAC address, the IP is different. Since the IP is different, BTV complains that "this license is still in use!" on the server.

I'd like Snapstream to "count licenses differently" so I don't get this error message. Perhaps if a TCP connection drops/times out, take the BTV Link license off the "in use" list. Don't just do it on some sort of "BTV Link shut down" event.

Re: BTV Link license annoyance

Can you make your laptop a fixed ip address for the wired and wireless?

Re: BTV Link license annoyance

I could, but that could create other issues on the network, and I'd rather not use static IPs.

For example, if I'm on the network via a wireless and then plug in the cat5 cable, there would be a period of time where two NICs have the same IP address, which is a bad thing.

In short, DHCP is a wonderful thing, and I prefer to use it.

I just think that when the BTV server detects a TCP connection drop or time out, that would be a good time to update its "licenses in use" list.

Re: BTV Link license annoyance

There is no persistent TCP connection between Link and Server to wait for it to drop or time out.

There is a 15 minute timeout on the Link session where the server will remove the IP/CDKey combo from its known list.
