New capture card suggestions
I have been using the Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE card in a low-profile IBM Netvista 1.8GHz desktop PC for the past 2 years for SDTV/analog cable with generally good success. But I just upgraded my main workstation and have freed my old one for a new purpose. It's an Athlon XP 2400+ (OC to 2300GHz) with 1GB RAM, 500GB, and a 7800GS AGP card. I figure that should do as well as just about any single core box available, even for HD when I get it. Trouble is, the old 150 card won't fit in the standard slot chassis w/o mods, so I think I'll sell it and get a standard height card. I'm looking at the HVR-1600 WB, since I already use the Firefly remote. I have Comcast digital cable available, but I just record analog now. What concerns me most is what happens as Comcast starts (and already has) pushing the under-99 channels into the over-100 digital channel range. Do I just port the digital box output to the TV card and just record everything on channel 3? I will lose the guide and all the BTV logic (like resolving conflicting recordings on its own as much as it can). It would be as much of a PITA a recording from the dital box to a standard VCR. I'd like to get something a bit more future-proof if I can get it. What are your thoughts? Thanks for any replies.
